What is a good source for keeping up with filming happnening in Boston?|132080

I know more and more movies are being filmed in Boston, and I always hear of people going to see an on-site filming session, or just going for an open casting call or to just see the celebrities.

What is a good source/website or other way to keep up with what is being filmed where?

  • For more information: mafilm.org has an online magazine. Some current filming info included, but primarily a promotional site. The Quincy Film Bureau has a list of South Shore based talent agencies (quincyfilmbureau.com). The jackpot is at newenglandfilm.com, which has current industry information and an active jobs board.

  • Maybe this one. Ben Affleck_s been in my neighborhood all week. Exploding cars, gunfire...

  • Are the interstates in and around Los Angeles really that bad to drive?|116235

We are planning a family roadtrip from Santa Fe new mexico to Los Angeles...we will be flying to santa fe(we live in Pittsburgh, PA) my dad is scared about the interstates in LA saying they are too dangerous and everyone drives too fast and we woun_t be able to handle driving on them. Specifically we would need to be on the 405 and interstate 5 and interstate 10. Are these roads bad for a non-californian? Once again we live in pittsburgh PA so we are not completely sheltered from city traffic and interstates

  • If you can drive on the 376 and the like in PIttsburgh, the freeways in LA will not scare you. You are perfectly OK here to drive the speed limit as long as you stay in the right two lanes. WHen my daughter first learned to drive here in Orange County she was scared to go out onto the 405 but once she was on it, she says it was easier to drive on than the surface streets.

The accident and injury rate is lower onthe LA freeways than on the surface streets.

I have lived here for 9 years and when I went to Pittsburgh to my daughter_s graduation from Chatham I got truely terrified in the Swissvale tunnels and on the 376, far more than anything LA could ever havd out.

  • I_m originally from Dallas and I don_t think the freeways in Los Angeles are any different than driving there. I never had any problems merging, even with Texas plates on my car. Just drive at least the speed limit (not under) and we won_t give you any obscene finger gestures. If you see something interesting park your car and walk and not by driving 15 MPH under the speed limit to gawk.

Most of the time the freeways are too congested to go very fast.

Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, even GPS don_t give very good directions for getting around the city. That_s speaking from newbie experience. Buy a real paper map of the area in advance. AAA or most gas stations sell maps.

The freeways and many of the streets are in bad condition so if you think the wheels are about to fall off your car it_s just rough pavement.

  • Most of us find the freeways too slow, bogged down by traffic most of the time! Sometimes the 405 is soooo slow I want to get out and walk, and I_m talking about the weekend. During weekday rush hours, there is no rushing.

The trick is planning ahead so you know where you_re going and what the signs will say. You can_t figure it out while driving on the freeway unless you already have a good knowledge of the area. When traffic is moving fast, if he stays in the slower lanes to the right, he should be fine.

If your dad can be patient and not freak out if he misses an offramp, he won_t have a problem. Just get off the next offramp and check your map. It_s not a big deal, happens to everyone at some time.

    Have a fun adventure!

  • people who say this are absurd, i_ve lived here for years and only approached the speed limit on a couple of golden days i can remember like they were my birthday. if you want to practice you can just sit in your car in a parking lot. i_ve been to every other major city and they_re nothing like DC or Miami or something where everyone is a maniac. they call it the 405 cuz you will go 4 o_ 5 miles an hour. why you guys are planning to drive all around so much when you come on vacation is another question, you will get to spend about an hour outside the car if you go all around like that.

  • Non a non-Californian. A non-Angelino.

Take it from someone who makes visits to Long Beach, I find LA freeways scary! I am not used to 5 lanes and extremely fast speed limits, so I am always on the 4th or 5th lane to get to an exit or to another freeway safely.

You_ll be fine though. I haven_t been in an accident in Los Angeles, yet. I figure I might as well get used to it if I go to school in CSU Long Beach or any school in LA anytime soon.

  • They aren_t bad if you are not a person that gandys You need to know where you are going and go with the flow of traffic.
If the traffic is running 80 mph and the speed limit is 65 and you go 65 you will be given a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic.
In other words if you don_t want to run with the big dogs stay on the porch.

  • First the bad news-----Traffic on the 405 between the 10 and 101 starting this month will be at a near stand still for the next 3 years as they add another lane and redo the bridges. They will be closing off 1 north bound lane in a few days.
The Good News- You won_t have to worry about fast LA drivers......Just Road Rage.....LOL

  • The roads are fine. It_s the drivers that will kill you.

  • LOL! Oh man. The 405? Do you KNOW why the call it the 405? Because you go 4 o_ 5 miles per hour, THAT_S why.

If you_re from Pittsburgh, you should be fine. Frankly, you can_t get over 55 on any of those freeways anytime during the day. The traffic around LA is terrible. Yeah, there are a couple of agressive drivers out there, but nothing like back east. People who have come here from back east tell me that LA drivers are too slow. So go figure.

I-10 is pretty fast from Blythe to San Bernardino, but slows down as you get closer to LA. Just stay in the right lane, and you_ll be fine.

The best part about the interstates here is that you don_t have to deal with snow, and rarely rain. If it does rain, Angelenos over-compensate, and drive REAL slow.

    Have fun!
  • What are the 10 biggest supermarkets in the USA?|116716

I_m british so i only have tesco_s and sainsbury_s, and was wondering what the 10 biggest supermarkets in the USA were.

  • BY STORE COUNT (1)

    1. Safeway (Oakland, Calif.) 2,000 (2)
    2. Kroger (Cincinnati) 1,300 (3)
    3. Winn-Dixie (Jacksonville, Fla.) 1,264
    4. A_P (Montvale, N.J.) 10,112 (4)
    5. American Stores (Salt Lake City) 957 (5)
    6. Lucky Stores (Dublin, Calif.) 681 (6)
    7. Albertson_s (Boise, Idaho) 434
    8. Grand Union (Elmwood Park, N.J.) 383
    9. Food Lion (Salisbury, N.C.) 279
    10. Publix (Lakeland, Fla.) 278 (7)

  • These are the ones I know. I live in Southern California: Albertson_s, Walmart, Ralph_s, Stater Brothers.
  • What are some good tourism sites in the california bay area?|113454

For the family, and not like the golden gate brige and other obvious ones.

  • I always think it_s a good idea to take a bus tour of a city first.
To help familiarise yourself with the city_s layout.

~~ For panoramic views of the city and bay, Coit Tower, atop Telegraph Hill is the place to go.
~~ A cable car ride in Frisco is a must (just hang on tight - you_re most unlikely to get a seat!)
~~ For shopping go to Union Square, one of the city_s three original parks
It is now a public space atop a multi-level underground parking garage and ringed with elegant shops and hotels. The Powell cable car line begins about a block away, and the theatre district is nearby.
Or just walk around downtown, beautiful shops, street art and lovely restaurants/delis/cafes abound.
~~ Lombard Street, known as the _Crookedest_ Street is actually neither the crookedest street in Frisco nor the steepest!
But it is the most famous and very pretty when the flowers are in bloom.
The _crooked_ section is the block below Hyde Street.
~~ Visit Alamo Square to look at the beautiful Victorian houses aka _The Painted Ladies_.
Beautifully kept they are synonymous with San Francisco.
~~ I also recommend a cruise of the bay, one that takes you over to Alcatraz. This is a must while in town
~~ You do need to cross the Golden Gate Bridge - just to have done it! Or do a guided walking tour of it.
~~ You can easily spend a day at Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Gardens is worth seeing - beautiful and serene. And the Conservatory of Flowers.
~~ To find the real Chinatown you need to leave behind what architects created for the tourists and delve into the alleys, shops and restaurants.
~~ Spend a day strolling around Fishermans Wharf, eat seafood outdoors, cooked before your eyes.
Street performers and artists add to the wharf_s colour.
Pier 39 has some good tourist shopping and the elephant seals are enjoyable to watch (and noisy).

This is just a few attractions I would recommend to anyone visiting Frisco.
    There are many more.
I have found a link for you: Only in San Francisco - it is the Official Visitors Site.
Have a look and see what else Frisco offers:

    http://onlysf.sfvisitor.org/

  • You can walk down the windiest/curvy rode in San Fran. You used to be able to drive down it but the rode got torn up too much. you can go to Fisherma_s Worf and/or Pier 39. Take the tour of Alcatraz(kinda obvious). China Town in San Fran is amazing! Great America but that_s in San Jose. If you are into looking at antique shops just go to the heart of San Fran and walk up and down the streets and you will find something to do. Make sure to bring a sweater. Its cold by the bay! Its a fun place to visit and live. Was there for 16 years.
  • What are some good and inexpensive African restaurants in NY?|100377

I really want to go to a (West) African restaurant. I already like Ethiopian food but I really want to try something of the West African variety. There is a place in Harlem that looks appealing and I will check it out soon. Do you have any other inexpensive suggestions? Thanks.

  • OK, the link below is to TripAdvisor_s Restaurant Guide page for New York City, so, use the _Filter Restaurants By_ pull-down menu at the top to select the ethnicity of the cuisine you_re looking for, and then it will list dozens, sometimes hundreds, of NY restaurants that match your search, and then you won_t have to keep asking individual questions here about each of the individual types of cuisine you_re looking for.

It_s one-stop shopping, if you will...

  • There are thousands of the restaurants in the Five Boroughs of New York City. Depending on your taste, your budget and your preferred location, may I recommend the links below.

-- Urbanspoon. You can find restaurants either by price, location or cuisine.

-- NY.com. You can find plenty of restaurant information at this link. Everything from H_H Bagel to fine dining at Le Cirque.

    Bon appetit!

  • How far of a drive is it from Lincoln City, Oregon to Siuslaw National Forest?|124364

  • Now taking suggestions for a great vacation destination within the US?|198288

It_s been a long time since my last REAL vacation, and my husband is soon returning from Afghanistan, and I_m thinking about surprising him with a vacation (we haven_t had much of a honeymoon). We_re not beach people; we like beautiful scenery; we enjoy music history; we_re adventurous and active people who like amusements and other thrill-seeking activities. All suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

  • To combine thrill seeking _ great scenery consider renting a All Terrain Vehicle) four wheeler) A side by side ATV like the Yamaha Rhino would be a blast. There are many of these rental outlets all across the west. Depending on what kind of scenic areas you enjoy _ season you are visiting would help you to decide where to go. One suggestion is:
South-Central Utah_s 275-mile long Paiute ATV Trail is a loop trail with no beginning and no end! It passes through several towns and has side trails leading to others. Dirt Wheels magazine rated the Paiute ATV Trail as one of the best 15 trails in the country. It has been rated as one of the top 5 trails in the country by ATV Illustrated magazine. Many riders consider the Paiute Trial to be the top US trail. This is a good ride in the early spring or fall.

  • For music history, the first thing that comes to mind is Nashville, TN, as well as Elvis_ home Graceland, also in Tn

  • I would go to Mackinaw Island, MI. If it were my choice. They have a website, I am not sure what it is but just put Mackinaw Island, MI in your search engine. There are no cars allowed on the island so it is nice island you can just walk around at your own pace. Hope this helps.

  • My favorite has always been Mesa Verde, Colorado. It_s a national park. Stay in the Far View Lodge. The lodge is on top of the mountain at 8000 feet and at night you can see for 200 miles in every direction.

If you get tired of dead indians in the park, Arches monument and Zion canyon are close by, as is four corners.

  • Maybe Seattle? It_s beautiful over there with greenery all over. Also, the city center is really nice, lots of stuff to do, shop, visit museums, sightsee. I think there is a Music Experience museum over there.

You could also go snowboarding if you plan to go during snow season. Mt. Rainier is pretty close to there so I_m sure there are a lot of activities, such as hiking or mountain biking.

It_s also only a three-hour drive to Vancouver, so you could pop on over there for a day or two to see the city.

  • If you like the outdoors, Cooperstown New York. It_s a small _baseball_ town, but you truly get an _outdoorsy_ feeling.

  • San fransisco thru the Redwoods to Astoria Oregon, finish with Portland Oregon.

  • NOrth Shore of Minnesota - quite the _artsy_ community in Grand Marais and you could swing over to Hibbing to soak in some Bob Dylan.

  • Eureka Springs, Arkansas sounds exactly like what you want.

  • niagra falls may be touristy, but if you haven_t been there, it really is amazing and awe-inspiring. i highly recommend visiting. also, national parks like those in california and washington are beautiful. hike up the waterfall mt. vernal in california_s yosemite.
  • How old do you have to be to go clubbing in Chicago?|188338

How old do you have to be to go clubbing in Chicago?

And what are some good clubs downtown?

  • Most clubs in and around Downtown are 21+, same as the legal drinking age in Illinois. However, there are a few that allow 18+ in on some nights of the week. Typically if your in the 18-20 yr old bracket you will be charged more of an admission fee (due to 21+_ers buying alcohol, and you not!). Club admission usually starts at $10 before midnight and $20 after. Most joints are open until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays, but some do close at 3am.

Whereas your best bet is to go to www.metromix.com, two of my DT fav_s are Excalibur (632 N. Dearborn St.) and Soundbar (226 W. Ontario St.). Both are located in the River North area of Downtown and both have dress codes (collared shirts, no sneakers, no shorts, no hats).

We Chicagoans are a big fan of the drink, so there pubs, bars, and clubs all over the city. We also have a great transportation system composing of elevated trains, 24 hour subways, and reliable buses that span the entire city and well into the massive suburbs. A few great party neighborhoods are Wrigleyville (Red Line Addison stop), Wicker Park/Bucktown (Blue Line Damen stop), Rush Street (Red Line Division stop), and Little Italy (Pink Line Polk stop). Also check out Logan Square, Ukrainian Village, Lakeview, Warehouse District, Beverly, and Greektown. You_ll not only find great bars and clubs in the areas, but some of the greatest restaurants in the country

Chicago may not be the largest city, but we have the most people

  • The Warehouse in Melrose Park
    The European Club in Cicero
    17+ no alcohol.

  • 18 and older for _okay_ ones, 21 and older for better ones.

  • If you want to go to the good ones then you_ll have to be 21.

  • 18 or 21

  • come are 18
    some 21
but if your over 30 someclubs won_t alow you in
  • What are some fun places to go on a weekend trip with your mate?|121861

I would like someplace fun staying out late, having a couple of drinks dancing. Something that takes my mind off being a mom, and all of it duties for awhile! :)

  • That answer will greatly depend on where you live. Usually weekend trips are not too far away since you don_t really have a lot of time to spend traveling.

That being said, you can_t go wrong with Las Vegas. However any major city will fill the bill at least for a short visit.

If you want a better answer, try asking the question again but giving your location.
