How and when to buy tickets for Amtrak?|128471

I want to travel through the US next year. I_ll be travelling from New York to Los Angeles. Should I buy the tickets in advance? Is it cheaper to book online or at the train station? Any _hidden_ costs I should know about? I_m a student from Holland by the way.

  • Amtrak tickets are the same price online, by phone, or at a station. Fares usually rise closer to the departure date as a train fills up, and in some cases can sell out days or weeks in advance, so it_s best to book as far in advance as possible using any of these three methods. Coach tickets are fully refundable until you physically pick them up at the station, so there_s really no risk in booking early.

There are also a number of discounts that typically require advance purchase, such as three days on the 15% student discount. You can find these at:

  • Ticket prices are the same wherever you buy them. You should buy tickets at least a couple of months ahead of time, to be sure they are not sold out. You can call or email them and ask how far ahead of time they recommend.

  • No the truth is the sooner you get your tickets the cheaper they will be. The more tickets for that train they sell the more the price goes up. So get them as soon as you can. The price will be the same online or at the station. A you can go online and get a student discount.
  • How would I go about buying a chunk of the Seattle Kingdome?|142889

My parents and I moved across the country from Seattle when I was twelve. I miss it, and I still feel like it_s home to me. I knew that they gave away chunks of the Kingdome when it was demolished, and I_d really like to find one to have. I have so many childhood memories at that place, and it would mean everything to have a piece of it.

  • check the link below. They sell chunks as paperweights.

  • thats a great idea i never thought of i hope you got some
  • What is a good activity for a romantic getaway in San Fransisco?|143370

i am staying for a weekend with my boyfriend for our two year anniversary (yay) and i want some ideas of what we could do while we are there. Resteraunt and /or bar suggestions would be great too!!

  • Are you going to be staying in San Francisco or just somewhere in the Bay Area? If you_re staying in the city, one of my favorite restaurants is Acquerello.

It_s very good and very romantic. It is expensive though, but for an anniversary, it_s worth it. Boulevard is another personal favorite too.

The SF Chronicle doesn_t disappoint with its 100 best restaurants list.

A nice walk through Golden Gate Park is always nice, especially with all the places to visit. I recently went to the Academy of Sciences and it was amazing.

Nothing beats a trip to Stinson Beach / Marin County, and Tiburon and Sausalito are nearby too. Lots of little shops to visit and great restaurants to try.

South of SF, Half Moon Bay also has some great places to walk around and visit. And during summer, nothing beats a stroll down Cannery Row in Monterey on your way to the aquarium.

Hope you have a great weekend, and congrats on the two year anniversary!
  • What beach would you recommend to go to if you where in the Orlando area?|138609

I am in Orlando right now and I wanted to go to the beach, but I didn_t know what was a good beach to go to. Any suggestions? The most I_ll travel is 1 1/2. Thanks!

  • Cocoa Beach is the closest. You_ll have to drive only about an hour to get there. It_s not as beautiful as the gulf coast beaches, but within your time frame. It_s family friendly and never too crowded (especially if you don_t get too close to the pier). I go several times during the summer, and we always have a fun day.

  • gulf coast is prettier but cocoa beach is nice also if you go to cocoa beach you have to go to the ron jon surf shop its cool

  • Fort DeSoto of St. Petersburg is one of the cleanest beaches in the US. It is free of heavy tourism and is unbelievably gorgeous and historic. The sand is so clean and white and the beach doubles as a nature preserve making it a very attractive place to spend the day.

You can also rent kayaks, fishing equipment and the like. It_s about 1.5 to 2 hours away but it is worth it! Ask anyone in the area and they will have nothing but good thigns to say about it.

In 2005 it was named America_s top beach so trust me its worth a try!

  • daytona beach, there are plenty of big shells to snorkel for there

  • St. Petersburg is the best in my opinion! The sand is a beautiful white, the water is so clear and gorgeous! We went there after we were done at Disney World and I want to take another vacation to just go back there.

  • daytona beach, cocoa beach, but the best is clarwater wich is a little farther than the rest of them

  • hah orlando isn_t near the beach!
you_ll have to drive a bit
    try a waterpark

  • Daytona Beach to the east, Clearwater Beach to the west.
