What are some of the best areas of the Everglades to visit? Or other amazing natural wonders in south Florida?|149166

Will be visiting Orlando and Miami areas and would like sight seeing suggestions. Prefer self-guided and off-the-beaten-path kind of things. We_ve already seen Fakahatchee Strand and the rookery.

  • Make the drive down to Flamingo, FL (SW of Homestead). The drive takes you into the wild heart of the Everglades (1st link). Then make sure you take the _Loop Road_ (2nd link). And if you do the Loop Road, then you_ll be going by Everglades City: make the drive in and stay a night.

The most amazing natural wonder in all of Florida is the Florida Keys. Take the drive down to Key West, and the scenery will take your breath away. Google-search these words: Bahia Honda State Park.
  • How much different is the secnery around I-15 from Death Valley?|146385

In about 6 weeks I_ll be driving for the first (and maybe only) time from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I_m considering diverting to Death Valley, but that_ll add hours of driving time.

Which leads to my question: How different is the scenery around I-15 from what_s in Death Valley? Is it pretty much the same, or is Death Valley worth the extra effort?

    Thanks!

  • Death Valley is worth the time to drive through, but it will add hours to the trip. I suggest going past Bad Water ( lowest place in Northern Hemisphere) for photos and stopping along the scenic vistas( turn outs and parking spots available) just to know that you have seen some of the most unique desert views in the world.
I would avoid the tourist trap run by a private company, called Furnace Creek. Take photos, don_t leave money there! Have a memory filled trip!

  • First time I went to Vegas I made a side trip to Death Valley. Frankly I was disappointed. The scenery as you travel from LA is every bit as spectacular and frankly it is a heck of a detour to see more desert and a few famous though dull landmarks. If you want to do it take a side trip from Vegas as there is a heck of a lot of traveling involved. Scotty_s Castle is about the most interesting place in there. I wanted to see Zabrisky Point and all there was is a worked out bauxite mine and more desert. It is remarkable for being below sea level in parts but that is hard to tell on the ground. Much more interesting is a trip to the Hoover (or Boulder if you prefer) Dam and the lake.

  • Death Valley is wild but it is a long day trip, leaving early if you want to see everything from Scott_s Castle to the lowest place on earth. It is basically desert and more desert with Pahrump inbetween. I would not want that drive during a trip to Vegas and I live in Vegas

  • You have got to see Death Valley and while you are at it on the Calif side go up the 395. To view what you will see go to vegasnature.com and click on Death Valley and everything else in the third row. They are all wow!
  • How cold will it probably in New York, Boston and Halifax around the first of October?|151934

I am planning to visit these cities in a couple of weeks. Should I pack sweaters and a heavy coat, gloves.... or is it too early?

  • I live in Boston. The weather is mid 60s right now. I_d say it will stay around mid-low 60s, maybe high 50s. Gloves and a coat won_t be necessary, but make sure to pack sweatshirts, light sweaters, maybe a light jacket just incase.

  • You can use the site below to see probable weather in those places. Click on _TripPlanner_...4th word from the right in the 2nd row of words in blue print across the top of the page. Then enter city and dates and click for the info.

  • You should bring a jacket. Daytime temperatures may get as low as the 50s(Farenheit) and nightime into the 30s.
  • Is it safe to visit the civil rights center in Memphis Tn?|133308

I have heard from a few different people that the area that the civil rights museum is in is very dangerous and was told not to go there, but I have a friend who is set on visiting it.

Does anyone know if this is a bad idea or not? I am familiar enough with Memphis to know that there are places you just don_t go. If anyone knows about the safety of this area, I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

  • certain times are not like after 9 when everywhere gets dark as long as your not alone you should be fine oh yeah don_t be flashy?
  • Whats the best way to drive from NY to Florida with a group of about 20 people?|182000

I don_t know if i should rent an RV or are there other options. The 20 people consists of adults and young children.

  • Rent a big van.

  • 20 people is way too much for an rv. As far as price goes, i would rent one of those like 15 passenger vans, then get a shorter one, or a car. Ive never seen a van for more than 15 passengers though.
