What happens if you live on the boarder between two time zones like Illinois and Indiana?|115408

The line between them. Do you have two time zones? Do you get
to choose. This has been nagging at me for a while, What if you work in a city with a different time zone? Are you late for work?

  • I have a friend that lives in Idaho/ and Montana. He picks Idaho time zone to live. You have to pick one or the other. He does use Montana_s telephone company because it is much cheaper then the one in Idaho. Must be nice to have such choices.

  • Time zones are just arbitrary lines people have set up. So if your house straddles two time zones you can just decide to use whichever one is most convenient for you. If you work in a city with a different time zone it_s your responsibility to get to work on time regardless of where you live.

I have known people who live right on the Illinois/Indiana border and, for simplicity_s sake they just keep to whatever time zone is most convenient. They may not be technically correct but it_s not like there are _Time Zone Police_ who go around checking everyone_s clocks.

  • The folks who wrote those arbitrary time zones actually made an attempt to keep whole metropolitan areas in the same time zone... that_s why almost all of Indiana is in the Eastern time zone, but slices of the northwest and southwest corners are in Central time.

Let_s say you live in Central time and you go to work in Eastern time where you start at 8 AM. 8 AM Eastern is 7 AM Central, so you_ll have to get to work at 7 AM Central time. The good news is that if work ends at 4 PM Eastern, that_s 3 PM Central.

  • You dont get to choose. I suppose theorectically you could but, your house, place of work, ect ect will be in one specific time zone. Just because you are on the line doesnt mean you will fall into both time zones. For example you cable feed will work off a certain time zone. i suppose you could set your clocks to anytime you want though.

And ofcouse if you work in a place thats a different time zone from where you live, you will be responsible for always knowing the difference.

  • You live in a nightmare. From what I can determine you go by two time zones. In other words..you go to work at the time zone they are in and shop during business hours business_s go on. WHen at home you attempt to adjust... makes it difficult to set a cerfew for your kids. AArrgghhhh !

  • You just have to be responsible enough to get to work at the time you are supposed to be there according to their time zone.
