  • Old Sacramento in Sacramento, CA is located along the Sacramento River and is where the original Argonauts and 49ers arrived to head out for the Gold Fields in the early days of the California Gold Rush. As the town grew, the home owners and shop keepers got tired of the river flooding their homes and stores, so they brought in tons of dirt and raised the city above flood level by burying the first floor of the buildings and moving up to the second level. (So what had been the 1st floor was now the basement _ the 2nd floor became the 1st floor).

As a result, there are rooms and tunnels underneath the current buildings and they are said to be haunted. There are many stories of paranormal experiences reported by owners and staff of the shops in the area that still have access to the lower levels through their shops. There used to be organized tours, but I don_t believe they have them anymore - too bad!! it would be very interesting, don_t you think? See

for more information about Old Sac.

    Hope this is helpful!

  • The first thing that came to my mind was also the Winchester House in San Jose, however... I don_t think it is that scary! The tour kind of takes away from the scare.

Here is an article about the 13 most haunted places to stay in NorCal:

    Have fun :)

  • The Winchester House in San Jose.

And then there was this abandoned house in Paso Robles where they filmed the movie _Arachnophobia_ but I forgot the exact location.
