What are somethings to do on a long car ride?|103646

I_ve got a pretty long roadtrip tomorrow and need somethings to do besides car games. I would really like things i can do by myself. I have a laptop, but that only lasts like 2 hours lol any ideas?

  • We play alphabet games, you know, find words on signs in order of the alphabet, or _I went on vacation and in my suitcase I packed and anaconda, a buffalo, calendars, etc. Or you can go around the car naming famous people. If I said James Dean, you would have to come up with someone who_s first name starts with a _D_. If the first and last name start with the same letter then everyone has to come up with someone who_s first and last names start with the same letter. Or you could go through the alphabet naming places you_d like to go, etc..... There are a lot of different alphabet games.

We also have found that audio books pass the time. My boys are not readers AT ALL, so when I picked up an audio book for a long trip they both rolled their eyes and told me I was a dork. An hour into the first one they were both hooked. Cracker Barrel has audio books you can rent for like $20-30. You can pick one up in one state, return it to another Cracker Barrell in another state and get your money back.

We also have a portable DVD player, and a car charger for the laptop. If you can read in the car, bring books and magazines.

  • -For long car rides an ipod or something is a must.
I find that when I_m listening to music time goes a bit faster.

-If you draw, then bring your sketchbook.

-Or you could bring a book and read, but ugh, that always gives me a headache. But some people can.

    -SLEEP :)

-Talk or Text on your cell phone

-or if your REALLY bored, you can get some travel games that they usually sell at some convenience stores, haha

Uhhh thats all I can really think of!
Have fun on your trip! :)

  • Just soak in your surrounding.. That_s what I do when I have to ride in a car with people for too long

When I was a kid, my family would play _Guess the color of the next car_ You just guess the color of the next car you meet.

If you want it to get really hard, guess the color AND the manufacturer

  • You can get an adapter that plugs into the lighter that has
an electrical outlet. You can purchase one at a good truck stop
or a place like best buy. This will save cost on batteries.

Why not get a book of word searches and crosswords or something like that. They are cheap and will keep you entertained for hours. Also what about Madlibs? Yep they still sell those get the family involved and have some fun! You can also play those silly games like I Spy, you know I Spy something yellow. Will keep you entertained for a little while. There is also the licenses plate game. Keep a running tally and see who gets the most states. They do also make smaller versions of board games such as Sorry, Connect 4 ect They are pretty cheap and you can get them at the toy store or some place like Wal-Mart. What about playing Bingo? There are several sites where you can print car bingo cards.spot a cow mark of a square ect. Again get the family involved it can be fun, it is what you make of it! Bring trivia, get a book or just bring the Trivia Pursuit cards have fun and question each other. Do a scavenger hunt, make up a list before you go of things to see, who ever sees the most wins. We go on long road trips each year and yep even at my age we pull out the kid games. Keeps you entertained and we always make it fun! Here are some sites to help you; they have things like the car bingo that you can print. Dont forget the cow counting game, yep again whoever gets the most wins. Sounds dumb but you can make it fun!

Here are a few other games:
    The Geography Game
To play this game, someone has to name any place in the world - New York, for example. Then the next person has to name a place that begins with the last letter of the first place - so for New York the next person could say _Kuala Lumpur._ Whoever goes next needs a place that starts with an _R_ cuz that_s the last letter of Kuala Lampur. You can_t use the same place twice in a game. If you get stumped, you_re out. The last person left in the game is the winner. You can mix things up by using celebrities names, movies or any other subject you can think of!

    The Grocery Game
This memory game is bound to whet your appetite for your next pit stop. One person starts by naming something they could buy in a grocery store that begins with the letter _A_ - apples, for example. The next person says, _apples,_ and then says something they could buy at a grocery store that begins with B, such as bananas. The next person says, _apples, bananas, can of beans,_ and so on. If you mess up, you_re out. The last person standing (well, actually, sitting) is the winner!

TWENTY QUESTIONS: One player thinks of a famous person, place or thing. Everyone else gets to ask the player 20 questions, which must be answered _yes_ or _no._ For example, _Does it know how to read?_ is a valid question, but _What_s its favorite book?_ is not. Whoever guesses correctly gets a turn to think up something.

A IS FOR ARMADILLO: Starting with A, each person tries to be the first to spot and name three items beginning with that letter. For example, the first to see and announce _armadillo, auto and apple_ gets to choose the next letter.

LICENSE PLATE LINGO: The goal of this game is to come up with a phrase using the letters on another car_s plate. So if you see the plate LMT 823, the first person to call out a somewhat logical phrase such as _Love me tender_ or _Lost my tooth_ earns a point.

ODDS, EVENS: Two players pick either _odds_ or _evens._ Then they make a fist, shake it, say, _One, two, three...shoot,_ and stick out one or two fingers. If the total is an odd number, the player who picked odds wins. Same goes for evens.

    Name that tune
    Rules of the game
Here_s a game that_s great for those who like to sing or hum a tune. One player thinks of a song that everybody knows and hums its first few notes. (Hint: Your child might not recognize top-40 pop songs yet, but chances are he can recognize _Row, Row, Row Your Boat_ or _Baby Beluga._) The other players try to guess the name of the song. If they can_t guess, the first player keeps humming more notes in the song until someone comes up with the right answer. There are no winners or losers in this game; it ends when everyone gets tired of it.

    Rainbow Game
Call out a color and each person has to find something that color. For example, when you call out green, one person might point out grass, another a green car. It gets harder when you get to purple and pink.

    Tall Tales
The rules are fairly simple: One person starts telling a story. She talks for about a minute and stops when she reaches an exciting moment. Then another person picks up where she left off. The game continues in this manner, with the tale twisting and turning with each new speaker. If a large group is playing, the last person to have a turn finishes the story. With a small number of children, the game is over when one player decides to give the story an ending.

Of course you can also take a book, bring your IPod, any hand held video game, laptops, portable DVD Players ect. can always help you pass the time! Dont for get you can always sleep!

Good luck I hope this helps you and have a wonderful trip!!!!
