What are the Best Exhibits at the Smithsonian Museum?|185711

My family and I are visiting Washington next week and I wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions of their favorite exhibits.

  • I_ll give you some of my favorites:

--The Wright Brothers plane at the Air _ Space Museum

--Touching a moon rock at the Air _ Space Museum

--The Insect Zoo at the Natural History Museum

--The Star Spangled Banner at the American History Museum

--The transportation hall (believe it_s called Man on the Move) at the American History Museum

--The Peacock Room at the Freer Museum

--The Hall of Presidents at the National Portrait Gallery

--The Gem Hall at the Natural History Museum

--The space capsules, including the Apollo 11 Command Module, at the Air _ Space Museum

--The IMAX Theaters at the Air _ Space Museum and the Natural History Museum, particularly when they are showing 3-D films.

  • Sorry, this is a loaded question because there are 19 Smithsonian Museums and National Zoo, 7 research centers in New York City, Virginia, and Panama.

You want to see full scale airplanes? There is a museum for that near Dulles Airport.
Want to see the largest stuffed elephant? Want to see an actual space capsule? Want to see the hope diamond? Want to see portraits? How about a Museum of American Indians? How about a Sculpture Garden?

I hope that this has started you to thinking. I do not know what your personal interests are so I suggest you do a little research at the below URLs.

This is my help from Washington, D.C. United States of America.
Please pick an answer as the best answer, even if it is not mine.

  • In addition to Don_s answers, I_ll add the pandas exhibit and the orangutan exhibit at the National Zoo, which is also part of the Smithsonian.

  • there are 19 smithsonian museums, need to be a bit more specific :]

  • We went to the Natural History one while we were there. It was pretty cool- thats the one with the Hope Diamond!
