My biggest question is if is do-able? Im planning to take a trip with a friend and wanted to know if there is a highway or a road that goes all the way to anchorage, alaska?

Im hoping I wont have to drive on any Ice Roads.. I dont really feel like dieing.. lol

The distance from CA to Anchorage is appromately 3520.04 miles depending where you start from in CA, Summer from about end of May is more than likely the best time, Although I understand that some times you can travel at other times. I had a friend come from Anchorage to Ca in 2001 and traveled by car all the way pulling a trailer. You can also check with mapquest.com and put in your starting point and it will give you full detailed map and directions to your point of destination. Hope this helps.

You will be driving the famous AlCan Highway. Look it up and learn about the engineering marvel, the reasons why it was built, and the magic of the journey before you begin. Take lots of pics, pull over at the view sights, enjoy the trip. It is a once in a lifetime event. Make sure you finish before October as many motels, cafes, and gas stations close up for the winter. Summer is also the season of the orange cones. Be prepared for lots of stops and slowdowns as this is the only time when highway maintenance can happen.

I want to know the fastest way to commute there, without a car obviously. I only found one way with the metro taking 3 buses and taking 2-3 hours to get there :( I want to know if there is any faster way to get there.

To travel from Downey to Disneyland using public transportation is very easy. You would board either the east bound Metro #111 bus which travels across Florence Avenue or Metro bus #115 which travels across Firestone Blvd. to the end of the line at the Norwalk Metro Green Line station. There transfer to Metro bus #460 which will take you to Disneyland. When you board the #111 or # 115 ask for a transfer to use on the #460. The fare should be $1.25 each way. Have fun at Disneyland.

This is an interesting question to me since I don_t do Disney, but I know it is like the hugest attraction to people traveling to L.A.--Does Disney have a shuttle system from a lot of other places besides Anaheim station ??? Like LAX, or the Valley or Downtown L.A. or are you just left to your own devices ???

you can take 1 direct bus (Line 460) it provides direct service to
Disneyland for about $2.75
another option would be to take Metrolink from Union station
to Fullerton Metrolink/Amtrak staion then take OCTA 43 to
Mickeys house (AKA Disneyland ) and your metrolink ticket would be valid as a transfer on the OCTA bus
(this route might be a little faster then the direct bus route)

Check with the MTA and find out where you can catch the bus which goes directly to the Disneyland Hotel. From there you just ride the monorail in to the park. If you are driving, just take Interstate 5 south until you get to Harbor Blvd and follow the signs from there. Either way, it should be fairly easy.

Where in LA are you? If you are close to an airport, check out Super Shuttle or Primetime Shuttle. Most nice hotels can also provide that service. Also from LAX in addition to the shuttle there is a big bus that run every half hour. Disneyland Express. You can find number on the Internet by putting the names on the seach line.

You don_t mention where you are coming from (LA is the largest city area-wise in the US, silly!), but if you can get to any rail line, you can just take the MetroLink or Amtrak to the Anaheim station, then the Disney shuttle over to the park.

How are the fall colors in Michigans Northeastern Lower Peninsula right now?|113973

I_m thinking of visitting some place in the north eastern part of Michigan_s Lower Peninsula. Anywhere from Cheboygan to Alpena to Tawas. They say the fall colors peak there in late September to early October, but I_m not sure that_s true for this year (2007). So how are things there now and where is a good place to see spectacular fall colors?

from the sleeping bear dunes back towards Glen Lake
and the surrounding area. It_s a nice woodsy drive from the

Would you want seating or just a grass field for music? Would you want part of the Amphitheater to be covered? What ammenities would you like the campground to have? How far would you be willing to travel for camping and music? How long would you stay? What campgrounds do you really like and where are they? What amphitheaters do you really like and where are they? How cold is too cold for you to camp? How much would you be willing to pay for camping? How much would you be willing to pay for Music? Anything else you can think of?

I live in Colorado and I haven_t travelled to much but I can recommend some things around here. Red Rocks amphitheater is located about 35 minutes from Denver and it is beautiful. You can type in the name and see it. It is carved from red sandstone and has an unbelievable view. At night, they light fires on the stage. It is a great place for music, the prices can be steep though. It is not a huge ampitheater so allmost all the seats are really good. Another local outdoor place for music is Fiddlers Green. It is the standard sit in a field of grass venue. I prefer Red Rocks. You have to plan ahead because the tix go fast and scalpers charge a fortune.
I camp locally of course, I have a lot of places I like. I prefer to camp pretty rustic. That is, I take along everything I need for a few days. I camp in free open places so it isn_t expensive. No services at the campgrounds of course. But, if I am lucky, nobody around either. There are some nice places that aren_t far from Denver and easy to get to. Unless you have a sturdy vehicle with 4-wheel, I don_t recommend some areas. I have torn up my car trying to get to these rugged areas and it isn_t worth it.
So, I can only recommend places around Colorado, I would be happy to give some details. It is nice to get tips from a local. The weather is just about perfect for camping from now into September. Weekends, it can get crowded so I try to go around Mondays, or Tuesdays. It is nice to camp for about 2 nights and get a cheap room with a hot shower the third. Around October the weather cools off and it can be snowing in the mountains by then. I don_t camp when it is snowing, besides the cold, it is slippery to drive in and some roads get closed. Hope I helped. You can click on my name if you have any questions. I would recommend a vacation in Colorado sometime, just be sure to bring a car and plan on being around at least a week or so. There are lots of music festivals to go to. I think Vail, Aspen and Breckenridge have some things going. It is funny, most people only go to these towns for skiing, they are great to visit in the Summer. The rooms can be a lot cheaper also.

If you_re really good, the school won_t matter.
You will be required to learn certain things to pass the State Board exam.
A Vocational Technical School will teach those things, for a lot less $$, than a private school will charge you. They will also help you apply for financial aide, if you need it.
If you have the big bucks, a Redken Academy, will teach you how to pass State Board and how to be a Redken Colorist.
There are other private schools, throughout the State, which cost more than a Vo-Tech, but are less than Redken.
My advice to you is:
Visit several schools, talk to the instructors and the students.
Ask your hairdresser, if she attended a local school and how she liked it.
Perhaps, you could find a job as a shampoo assistant, so you could see how things work in a real salon setting, before making a final decision.
Your final phase of training will begin in the salon and will continue until you no longer love being a hairdresser. Every salon operates differently, so you have to be flexible enough to learn a new set-up.
You will learn something from every hairdresser you work with; some good, some not so good.

And my final piece of advice, if you decide to become a hairdresser is how to properly clean color bottles:
Put about 1/4 (one quarter) teaspoon of regular table salt in your color bottle(s), filll the bottle half way with warm water, replace the cap, cover the spout with your finger, shake vigorously, rinse with warm water and replace the cap, so that you don_t loose it. The salt will make the color release from the sides of the bottle.

I am not sure what area of Florida you live in, but I am an instructor at Central Florida College. We have an excellent Cosmetology program. This beauty school curriculum takes about 9-12 months depending on your commitment and availability. We are a Redken School, and located in Largo, Florida Pinellas county, near Tampa. There are day (full time) and evening (part time) classes available. They are an accredited school, you do not have to have your high school diploma or GED, they have been approved by the department of education and as long as you can pass a standard CAT type of test you can be enrolled. They also have financial aid available (they have a staff who will be happy to see what you qualify for)

The school itself if unbelievably gorgeous. All of the hair stations and equipment were especially shipped in from Italy. The facility is really posh. If you live in or near the area and are looking for a great beauty school, you should at least come and take a tour. Tell them Ms.J sent you :) I am sure I sound like a commercial, but believe me, it will be worth it.

Can illegals travel from Calif to Texas via greyhound without getting caught?|115471

There is always a risk. There are no border checkpoints from state to state. Only from country to country. However there still may be reason to be concerned.

It depends on where the coach sotps, if there are police there (eating, taking a break, getting gas, etc.), what the local policy at the stops are and if the police notice anything suspicious.

Unless you are traveling close to a border town, there are generally no check points set up between states. An example, outside of Eagle Pass, Texas, there is an immigration site to check people to ensure those who traveling into the interior of the state, have the necessary documentation. Barring any criminal or terrorist activity along the way, she should be ok traveling on a bus. Prior to your travel, I might suggest you check the web for any activity around the country, concentrating on the areas you will be travelling through. Good luck.

I think your biggest problem would be the produce check point in CA...but mainly that is checking produce coming in to CA and not going out. America is filled with a diversity of people, races, colors, creeds etc.

There are no border check points, but it has happened where INS does inspections on Grey hound buses. It would be a risk. It_s not very common though. It depends on the route.

As far as I know you don_t need a passport to travel between states. Unless you need ID to but a bus ticket, then I don_t see why not.

I can_t afford to spend more than $350K on a home. I will be working in La Jolla and do not want more than a 30 min commute. I have no children but 2 dogs and would like some outdoor space for them and I like cafe bars and cool restaurants with an older crowd. I would rather not live in a student or family community what options do I have? Thanks for any guidance you can give.

You can_t get much of a home (maybe a condo at the most) within 30 minutes of La Jolla for $350K in a neighborhood that you would even consider living in. I think you should get a place to rent fairly close to La Jolla (look in the Clairemont 92117 area for the best place to live that_s close to La Jolla and at a decent price), and then go check out all of the neighborhoods that you can afford to see if any of them appeal to you. You would be making a mistake buying a place out here without knowing about the neighborhood the house is in. And, I think you would be pretty disappointed when you actually find out what that $350K will get you out here.

Kingston Ave is good. Very nice homes along the ocean, and affordable.
