What is the best place to go for a family vacation in the usa? at a beach?|143516

It would be myself, my husband and our 3 year old son. My husband is looking for a beautiful beach, as tropical as possible in the continental us. We would also like a place with activites for my son. Thank you in advance :)

  • florida has tropical beaches and disney of course!

  • San Diego would be a perfect choice for you. You would have the tropical beach that your husband wants and you could take your son to the zoo, Wild Animal Park, Sea World, or Legoland.

Two of the hotels that are tropically landscaped are the Marriott on Coronado Island and Paradise Point in the Mission Bay Area but there are others as well.

For more info on hotels and things to do in San Diego check out this site:

  • Look into the gulf coast. From Alabama on down there are beautiful spots to visit. Sanibel and Captiva Islands outside Ft. Myers are wonderful vacation spots. The island offers great sea shells and the sometimes a shark tooth or two. You might also think about Clearwater or St. Pete and the Tradewinds Resort or the Don CeSar. If you want to go further south look into Hawk_s Cay Resort in the Keys.

  • We always took our children to Seaside Florida. It_s on the panhandle. It is very family oriented. The sand and water are not to be believed! The cottages are all so cute and the town has everything you need. There are shops, art galleries, restaurants, evening family type activities. I just love, love, love this little town. It is a planned community and is soo safe.

  • Depends on budget, and time of yr., i.e. you don_t want to go to Florida during hurricane season. I went online and googled various states vacation travel guides I thought we_d be interested in, and, we keep them in one of those expandable folders. They have a lot of info re: kid friendly stuff, things to do/see, and coupons. Take out AAA for more savings - they will even plan your route out on a map for you for free. We have traveled places we never knew existed in the U.S. Neat places in the South, although during the heat of our Okla. summer the cooler climate at Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with the mountain lakes and the geysers and wildlife were a welcome change. Make sure you check closely and find out if there has been any recent oil spills, etc. - we went to Galveston once, and it was oily and nasty b/c there_d been an oil spill from a ship less than a month before. Also - check for wildlife before you camp or anything - we camped on a beach at Port Arthur, TX, and woke up to see a dune 50 feet behind us. We walked up the dune - there was an alligator in a swampy area behind the dune! My brother is stationed in San Diego, and loves the beach and climate there (although he said the same thing when he was on the East Coast). I_d like to do either a gem mining vacation, or a lighthouse touring vacation next.
