Is there any main special holidays or school holidays during Sept and October in the US?|171496

Thank you so much for any help! Just any national (or state if you know!) holidays during these months?

Im just mostly wondering if I holiday during these months if it will be packed with holiday goers or not! But will also be nice to know if any will be on whilst Im there!

  • While it is true that the only holidays are Labor Day (first Monday in September) and Columbus Day (second Monday in October - closest to October 12), it should also be noted that there is often a university-level October break in early October. This is not a huge holiday - not a week long, and students tend to go home, not away for the weekend.

Many families take holidays that END with Labor Day, because school traditionally starts the Tuesday after Labor Day. In 2008 these holidays will occur the last week of August, ending the first weekend in September, but in 2009, Labor day is late, and therefore the first week of SEptember will be busier that year.

September sometimes has older holiday-goers who take advantage of the shoulder season.

But generally, there are not a lot of holiday-goers out and about after Labor Day at all. It is one of the quietest periods for tourism in the US. I usually recommend that people visiting Washington DC do so in late September/October because there are so few tourists.

  • labor day sept 1st, halloween october 31st

  • Labor Day is in early September.
    Columbus Day is in October.
