What is the best part of portland to live in?|180433

I_ll be moving up there for school the start of 08 from so cal and I dont want to live in the dorms.
What part of town is the best to get an apartment in?
I want to live in a fairly safe part of the city.My range is 850-1,200 a month. What part would you reccomend?

  • The pearl is nice, it_s similar to santa monica, in it_s people and restraunts and shops. 23rd reminds me alot of melrose, expensive boutique, little bistros whatnot. psu actualy has some nice apt. around, everything is walkable. There_s a few towers over there that have garages. which is a bonus unlike nw which is on street parking. I actualy perfer goose hollow, it_s accesible to everything but alittle more tucked away. cute older homes and new apt. developes going in currently.

  • Check out

    Museum Place Apartments

    1030 SW Jefferson St
    Portland, OR 97201 Map

    (503) 295-0303

They are close to shopping, PSU and obviously the Art Museum and public transportation.

    Good Luck to you.

  • i noticed a lot of people are recommending the pearl district to you and i admit it is nice. good shopping too (but expensive)

  • Hey for that much you can live in The Pearl District. If you want to live near PSU you can get a decent place for that much.

  • Northwest Portland is the best. Around 23rd street is very safe and friendly. Hard to park a car tho.

  • It all depends on what kind of neighborhood you like. I love inner SE Portland. Hawthorne/Belmont/Clinton St are all great places to live. Tons of shopping, coffee shops, bars, etc. Also, PSU is right over the Hawthorne Bridge pretty much (that is if you are attending PSU...not sure which school you_re going to). There are lots of great neighborhoods you could afford to live in that are safe and fun.

  • You should check out flats in the Pearl District, NW 23rd, or the West Hills.

    Here are some places...
    -Riverplace Square
    -10th @ Hoyt
    -the Merrick
    -Forest Creek
    -Scott Mountain by the Brook
    -Wimbledon Square
    -Village At Lovejoy Fountain
    -Lovejoy Station
