What is the best way to get from Sacramento airport to south Lake Tahoe?|159790

I don_t really want to rent a car. We have 8 people in our group (4 kids) and want to leave the airport on a Saturday and return the following Saturday.

Thanks

  • Well, with that many people renting a car would be the most efficient way to make the trip especially on a Saturday. If you do want to use a bus, first get into downtown Sacramento on the YoloBus which is a public transit system serving the airport and provides express service to downtown for only $1.75 per person. From there check Amador Trailways which recently had routes between Sac _ S.L.Tahoe. Amtrak Thruway buses also have several daily trips between Sac _ Tahoe but may require a portion of your trip be on a train in order to sell seats on the bus segment. During the week, additional transit service is possible on the El Dorado Transit system.

  • I would suggest calling Foothills Shuttle and Charter service. It_s a small business but as far as I know, the only one of its type that operates in the Sierra Nevada foothills. They might be able to help you, but considering your party is so big, that would also mean they would probably need to use both of their vans (and they only have two).

I believe they are based out of Nevada City, CA. You can call them at (530) 432-3235 or (530) 210-9085.

The owner is Dominic and he is a lovely man. Expect to pay a lot, though. I think from the Nevada City area to the Sacramento Airport is $219 per person, return. To / from Tahoe I imagine it will be more. Multiplied by 8 people... it sounds to me like it would be more cost efficient to simply rent a car / van yourself.

Other than that, you could try Greyhound...

  • Why don_t you just change your flight to fly into the Reno/Tahoe airport? It seems like it might be cheaper to change your flight than to commute up the hill from Sacramento.

  • my roommate used greyhound. you can find them on line.
