How to get from the west side to east side in Manhattan ny?|190393

I always get confused when changing from the east side to west side. what is the easiest way for me to remember and how do i do it. is it always the opposite way from where I am at?

  • In my opinion if you are a person who moves around a lot in NYC, you really need to learn the basic directions, north east west and south. Some people think it_s so complicated but it is actually pretty simple. Learn which direction the traffic flows on the main avenues. This will help you quickly figure out which direction you need to walk. Basic rule on the streets, Even numbered streets go East bound, Odd numbered streets go West Bound, there are some exceptions, but that is the rule. Also look at the address on the streets, Even numbers are on the South side of the street, while odd numbers are on the north side. Also pick up on landmarks, certain tall buildings and learn where they are located.

If you learn those basic concepts you will have no problem getting around the city for the most part. Of course once you get downtown into the village or where the grid system is abandoned you will just have to go by instinct or memory.

  • 5th Av which seperates the east side and west side bet. Harlem River Drive _ 8th St.
South of 8th St, it_s Broadway.

There is crosstown buses which cross bet. West and East Sides. These buses are:
    M14A/D, M23, M16/M34, M42/M104, M27/M50, M31/M57, M30, M72, M79, M86, M96, M3-M4 110th St-5th to Central Park West, M106, M116, M60/Bx15/M100 across 125th St.

  • Take the 4,5, or 6 train Downtown (south) to Lexington Ave (53rd) and transfer to a V train and take that to Columbus Circle, from where you can change to a 1,2, or 3, or an A or C, which go Uptown on the West Side.

  • East side is anything east of 5th Avenue and the west side is anything west of 5th Avenue.

  • Walk.

The Hudson River is on the west side of Manhattan, and the East River is on the east side. Fifth Avenue separates east from west.

  • Take the crosstown bus. There are many of them that travel along the major streets in Manhattan.

    Good luck

  • I think I know what you mean. If you are looking at a map it feels like the lower numbers should be on the westside.

  • your question doesn_t make any sense to me. what are you trying to ask? what do you mean by _changing sides_???
