My parents retired in the Sarasota area, there are a number of retirement communities there, some are on golf courses, others have different things to offer. I would check the area out, Sarasota is a lot of fun and has a lot to offer.

Can_t name specifics but check south florida region. It has good weather and lots of older people. Maybe like Bonita Springs or Boca Raton?

The Villages. Lotof crazy old people thinking thier 25 driving around in golf carts and boozin it up with the ladies. Seriously

How do you get to Yankee Stadium by subway?|171768

If we are staying at a hotel on East 42nd and 3rd street and wanted to get to Yankee Stadium on a Saturday how would one do that?

Walk to Grand Central Station and take a Bronx bound 4 train to Yankee Stadium--161 Street.

It should take about 25-30 minutes to get there, but allow extra time as the subway cars get very crowded on game days.

MTA_s trip planner will give you the best options for the time of day you_re planning to travel. Note, though, that you_ll want to leave early to get there, as the subways are very crowded to and from the stadium on gamedays.

Take the uptown Bronx bound 4 train to 161 St/Yankee Stadium stop. The train is one block west from your Hotel in Grand Central Station (look for MTA subway signs there).

Can you suggest alternatives to the golden nugget in Las Vegas?|182385

I_ve been to Vegas only once just recently and stayed in the Golden Nugget. I loved it there. I need to return for business in January, but the Nugget is out of my budget. I_m looking for something comparable in quality but at a better price. The Fitzgerald was the least expensive I have found online, but after reading reviews, it seems as if the hotel reeks of smoke. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

GN is a 4 Star and you won_t find another 4 star in LV for the rate you get the GN. I have seen the rooms at Fitz. DON_T even go there. The 4 Queens has remodeled. Ask for the South tower, The rooms are a bit larger. The Fremont is clean but the rooms are the size of large walk-in closets. Stay away from the Plaza. If you go to the strip the Flamingo sometimes offer good rates. I can_t speak for the Excalibur but I know of friends that said the rooms were _nice_ but lots of rug rats(kids) running around. That is the issue of Circus Circus. I would not stay at Circus Circus, Sahara, Stratosphere, Imperial Palace or Tropicana. If you can get the newly remodeled room at Riviera it would be o.k. If you can get the North Tower at Bally_s that is nice. A small but nice place on the strip is Bill_s. On the corner of LV Blvd and Flamingo. Its between Flamingo and Bally_s.

The other issue is there are a couple large conventions in town during January. If your going then, nothing will be very cheap. If you played at any casinos when there on previous trips and you used a casino players card try calling them for a player_s rate. It may not be comped but you may get a discount.

Book now directly with the casino at a couple places that don_t have a non-refundable rate but a good price. Keep checking on line at each for better rates. If the price drops all you do is call them and ask them to reprice your room for the lower rate they are offering. When it gets a few days or week out, cancel all of the rooms you have reserved but the one you decide to stay at.

If you don_t mind being off strip try the Orleans, Sam_s Town or the remodeled rooms at the Gold Coast.

None of the above mentioned are 4 star but they are in the low to mid 3 star range.

The Golden Nugget is the best hotel downtown by miles and whilst the oters are cheaper they are not comparable which is why the Nugget is more expensive. If you need to stay downtown I would consider Main Stret Station and then Binions but neither are anything like the nugget. You can however get a great deal on the Strip for that period with rooms at Excalibur from $29 and suites at MGM from $75 but you need to book quickly as some of these offers end this week !

The Golden Nugget in my opinion is the best hotel downtown. Look into Four Queens and Main Street if you must stay downtown.

Why dont you try either Circus Circus or the Riviera on the strip, I have stayed at both these places and never had a problem, although not as nice as the Golden Nugget thet are both definitely cheaper.

Yea, that sounds very reasonable. Check out Craigslist.com you can always put a wanted ad and see if anyone has cheaper rates.

In chicago on the northside it can run u about 225 dollars a month. so I_d say 100 isn_t so bad.

How far is the Greyhound terminal in Washington DC from Union Station where the trains leave from?|161351

I am traveling through DC this December. I am coming in on a greyhound bus to the main station and then leaving on an Amtrak train. I need to know how far the two places are apart and generally how long of a layover to plan. I know that there is a greyhound stop at Union Station, but the bus I need to use does not stop there.

The map I_ve seen says the two places are about 2-4 blocks from each other depending on the site I use to map. I just want some more practical advice. Are there shuttles or a walkway; or is a Taxi the best option?

It_s a very short walk between the two, not even 10 minutes, so you don_t really need to take a cab; in fact, most of the time you can_t get a cab at the Greyhound station and you need to walk over to Union Station anyway! There is no shuttle or walkway but the sidewalks are in good repair. During the business day there_ll be a lot of foot traffic with office workers walking around in the neighborhood but at night and on the weekends it gets to be a less lovely neighborhood so do be aware of your surroundings.

Union Station is at 700 1st Street _ there is a Greyhound station at 1005 1st Street. It is only .3 miles away.

I don_t know if that is the one that you can_t use, but I wouldn_t walk. It could be bitter cold _ carrying luggage would be a pain.

I_d say that when you get off the bus, look around to see if you can find a metro bus stop, if not, flag a cab.

Good luck _ plan enough lay over time to look around Union Station. It_s a really cool place.

The B, D, and 4. The B and D don_t always stop at YS, but one or the other is generally running.

What is there to do on Long Island for a 17 year old boy?|172430

I will be visiting Hicksville, Long Island over the holidays to see some family. I will be bringing my 17 year old son and wondering if there are any activities nearby to keep him occupied. He has already been to the city and i do not think that we will have free time to spend in the city.

Well, I am very glad you_re not going to the city because it is too dangerous for a boy of 17 and that never have been here before.
Concerning Long Island... Well, not much to do, but ahead of time plan to visit the fairy boats that would take you anywhere, and even a nice tour around Ellis Island, where the Statue of Liberty is at and around it New York City from one side and Brooklyn from the other... Nice rides...
Also there_s Adventureland which is a fun place with 52+ rides of all kinds.
For a small place as Long Island, there_s many museums, including the Dinosaur Museum which is very fun.
Performing Arts are always available with different performances...
