Are European car cigarette lighters the same as the US ones?|188567

We will be travelling to the US this summer and have a SatNat system. I know we can get maps for the US so I assume that there isn_t an issue of using a European (German) system in the US other than possibly keeping it charged.

There are some other questions that are similar, but some people seem to think it is no problem and others think it doesn_t work so if you have a link that would be helpful. I would like to not only know if there is a voltage issue, but if the adaptors themselves fit at all.

These litters are now called power points, sounds cooler than having a bunch of smokers. If the plug on your GPS won_t fit, stop by Radio Shack for an adapter.

You can get one that has battery clips on one end and proper outlet on the other.
