What to do on a trip through Yellowstone?|123297

We will be taking a driving trip to Yellowstone National Park, coming from Salt Lake City. We aren_t going camping or doing anything to much like that since we have a little one. What are some good things to do and suggestions for a trip that can still get us outside enough and where to go.

Thanks!

  • After leaving Salt Lake go through Logan Canyon enroute to Bear Lake Utah CIdaho. The north end beach is shallow for a longs ways out. Great for young wadders,Stop in Montpelier Id at the National Oregon-California Trail Center. After going through Star valley Wy head up the Snake River canyon to Jackson Wy. Make sure you take in the Bar J Chuckwagon - Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Chuckwagon Supper and Western Show. Folks of all ages enjoy it.
Once in Yellowstone just take in whatever your time allows. I have been to Yellowstone many times _ there isnt any must see attractions I would recommend anymore than the other. Of course everyone _ their dogs have to visit Old Faithful geyser
.If you are interested in a senic drive After visiting Yellowstone Park exit through the Northeast Entrance, which leads you to Beartooth Pass. The Beartooth Highway is an All-American Road that has been called _the most beautiful drive in America,_ by late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt. Due to heavy snowfall at the top, the pass is usually open each year only from Memorial Day in late May through Labor Day in September From Bertooth Cody Wy _ The Buffalo Bill Historical Center is your next destination. I think a younger child would enjoy this.
One other suggestion before you get to Jackson. Rent an ATV at Alpine Wy _ go for a cruise up the Greys River road. We have ATV of our own _ all the youngsters love riding along with us.

  • You can do a couple of driving tours of the park itself. There are stops along the way for short little walks, and you_ll see some geysers, wildlife, etc.

The Grand Tetons are very close. I don_t know how young the child is, but you can take a ride down the Snake River. It_s pretty calm, and quite lovely.

  • I lived in Wyoming for several years, visited Yellowstone rather often. Needless to say it covers a rather large area.

A drive north from Jackson-past the Grand Tetons-then through Grand Teton park is very scenic.

Not sure how much time you have. But to help with your planning, here is a very good link to view. Covers the park. And various activities.
