What do u think would be the most important steps to take in relocating ?|124180

Besides finding a job and a place to live.

  • Visit the place for several vacations. One whole week during each season. (to make sure the weather is tolerable)

Check the cost of housing as apposed to where you are currently living. Is it more or less?

Check the different types of jobs do they pay more or less?

Public transportation? Free museums, zoos, cultural activities?

Crime rate compaired to the place where you currently live?

The hospitals? How do they rate compaired to where you live?

The people, check them out. Go to the grocery store are they friendly and smile? Go to the park? Are they nice?

The schools? How do they rate? Are they better or worse than where you live?

  • schools ( if you have kids)
city life ( if you like to party)
    political demographics

  • The most important step you can take well before finding a job and a place to live would be to save a fairly significant amount of money, at least $10-15,000. In my experience everything always ends up costing more when you move and there are always unexpected expenses. This is especially true if you will be moving to Southern California.

    Good luck!

  • After you get a job and a place to live...

you have to get all your utilities started at your new place before you move in
Get your mail forwarded through the post office
and have all your utilities turned off and paid for when you leave your old place.

Don_t run from those bills - they effect your credit rating, so have them paid off and TURNED OFF, so you aren_t being charged for utilities you aren_t using.

Prepare to change banks, also, if your old bank is not available nationwide. You_ll need to close out your old bank account and open up a new one.

Don_t forget to provide your new address to all your credit cards.

  • 1. Cost of living: Will it be compatible to what you are accustomed to?

    2. Areas to live: Look at where you are planning to live both day and night. In LA, areas can highly vary.

    3. Activity: What do you like to do? Will the place where you are planning to relocate to offer your activities?

    4. Pace: Will the place where you are planning to relocate to offer the pace that you want.

  • You may want to look at the schools, how much is the income level there because it varies from state to state, how much is living cost, price of gas, the laws (don_t move to Oregon they have messed up laws), and the list goes on.............Good luck with your move!

  • Well, what else is there. Find a place to live and a job.....um..........break your lease or sell your existing place. Contact all companies for which you pay bills and give them your new address. Send a postcard to all of your friends and family. Cancel your utilities in the old place and activate in the new place.
