Im planning on moving to New York for a few months, any tips?|161578

I am planning on moving to New York for 4 months. Any tips on where to live and apartment searching, where to work, or any other tips in general.

  • If you don_t know where you_re going to be working, and don_t come from a lot of money, it_s going to be somewhat expensive. I_m not sure what your financial situation is, or if you_re a college student though, so I_m unsure. When you say New York, I_m taking it you mean Manhattan, but for less money, and still close access, neighborhoods in nearby Brooklyn, are really good options.

It_s going to be tempting, only being their 4 months though. Most people I know really become attached to the area. Where are you coming from? I wish you the best of luck. The market is kind of shot, so if you look around, or go through a rent company, they can help you find something for 4 months. Most vacant apartment owners are custom to this and would take 4 months straight up guaranteed rent money, probably for even a hundred less a month, in a heartbeat. One tip I can give you is, don_t bring a car, because it_ll be a pain finding parking. Parking can also be expensive if you drive around. In terms of work, I_m unsure of what kind of work it is you_re looking for, but there_s always a job around that pays like $10-12 an hour. Probably not ideal to live in Manhattan, but enough to do alright.

I have to agree with Jackson, assuming you don_t come from a wealthy, or upper middle class family, that_s going to pay for you to live there.I wouldn_t say not living in New York isn_t worth it, but a lucrative place in Manhattan just isn_t worth it, if you are barely getting by. Maybe you have a semester off from college and you_re looking to have a good experience? I_d say move to a nearby neighborhood in Brooklyn or Queens. Public transportation is still very good there, especially Brooklyn, and you_ll be able to get to parts of Manhattan quicker than other Manhattan residents.

  • For just 4 months? You will have an extremely difficult time unless you are rich right now and just looking to enjoy the experience.

First not many landlords will allow you to rent for just 4 months. It is usually a year lease and if they let you rent for 4 months expect to pay extra to do this. The rent is outrageous as it is if you want to live in a safe area.

The job market is very tough to say the least. You didnt say what field you want to work in but in general its very tough. To be completely honest it might even take the whole 4 months to even find a job.

If you wanted to move to New York for the long term thats one thing but just to move there for 4 months is not worth it at all. I think you should reconsider this to be completely honest with you.

  • That depends on how much you_re will to spend. May I recommend the link below. It will be very helpful.

    Good luck

  • I would look into a sublet. You can_t get an apt (your own lease) for that short a time. Maybe a residence hotel would be a good idea.

  • Hopefully you got money because it is as expensive as hell to live here.
