Where would be good places to enjoy the wilderness in New Mexico?|148286

I have been to Taos, Carlsbad, Santa Fe, and thats about it.

  • The Gila Wilderness in the Southwestern part of the state. Also Chama, Ruidoso, Red River, Jemez. Even the Sandia and Manzano Mountains 20-30 minutes East and Southeast of Albuquerque are beautiful. NM has over 16 million acres of acres of forested land, it_s not just a bleak desert as some people believe.

  • Lincoln National Forest has lots of winding roads and beautiful scenery though it_s been over 20 years since I_ve been there.

  • Sierra Blanca White Mountain Wilderness area just outside Ruidoso, New Mexico. Cloud Croft and Red River areas.

I have never hiked at Sierra Blanca but trails are there. I have seen elk, wild mustangs and mule deer.
