What is the closest place you can get beside downtown Phoenix to rent houses? ?|122746

I am taking a vacation to Phoenix and I need a answer. We want to go to the closest place to Downtown Phoenix, but not quite in it. We need a house, not a hotel.

Just did a quick search on Craiglist and there are quite a few in Phoenix (Biltmore is a VERY nice area in Phoenix)

Stay to the east, like Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, and Scottsdale. Much safer areas than the west. Gilbert and Scottsdale are very nice, but Scottsdale has a reputation for people who show off their money, while Gilbert is very modest. Tempe is pretty busy in the north part (where ASU is) but the south is calmer. If you like Mesa don_t live west of Alma School RD. North Phoenix is nice, but make sure you are north of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves... they make your drive longer, but it_s a beautiful and safe suburbia.

Try www.vrbo.com and www.homeaway.com for info. The nicest areas closest to downtown Phoenix would probably be Tempe and Ahwatukee. There are some nice places in Phoenix too, and Scottsdale but it would be pricier there.

Look in the historic neighborhoods surrounding downtown - Willo, Encanto, Roosevelt, and so on.
