What is the best and cheapest way to get from JFK Airport to Manhatten?|121040

We will have 3 very big suitcases, so we can_t take the Subway or a public bus, keep that in mind.

Does anyone know the price of any shuttle services from the airport?
Also, how long approx (in minutes) does it take from JFK to Manhatten.

We will be staying at the Hotel Edison, anyone ever stayed there b4 or heard any feedback from this hotel?

Thanks everyone, im from Sydney Australia, so any help would be great!

  • Taxi is a flat fare of $45, not including the $5 toll and tip. JFK is about 36 miles to Manhattan and usually takes 45 min to an hour to drive it. I wouldn_t take the shuttle, just because you have to wait on everyone else_s pick up and drop off. If you don_t mind the time, then go for it. With shuttle add 30 to 45 minutes more to your travel time.
Check out the shuttle website for their fare.

  • taxi_s are good for this stuff.
Tons of taxi_s wait outside the airport to bring people to Manhatten you won_t have a problem getting one.

Whoa your from Australia I have always wanted to go there it sounds amazing. Anyway have a good time here in the US. New York is truly amazing hope you get to do everything!

  • express bus service JFK to midtown.
    cost unknown.
go to the port authority web page and drop down on JFK
    then see the bus service.

  • Taxis are $45 plus tolls from all airports to Manhattan which would probably be your best bet as I don_t suggest driving in NYC to tourists.

noirdefilm, I don_t know what roundabout of a way you went from JFK to Manhattan but it_s only about 18 miles from JFK to midtown.

  • We just returned from NYC. It was 4 adults, two pieces of luggage -- 26_ers -- a stuffed backpack and 2 more carry-ons. Four humans crammed ourselves in a yellow cab passenger compartment with 3 in back and one in front with the driver. The carry-ons _ luggage fit into the trunk. The cab was a standard sized American made sedan.

We came in to JFK on Saturday morning and the ride to our hotel in Manhattan must have been 20 to 30 minutes (in no time after we crossed a bridge it seemed, we were at the hotel) because there was relatively light traffic at that time of day.

Each couple contributed $30 for a total of $60. That included the tip. We did the same when we had to return to the airport the following Saturday morning. Since we wanted a 7:00 am to 7:15 am early morning pickup, the driver agreed to return to get us. He was very prompt. Again, a happy arrangement for everyone.

We did not consider riding a van.

  • You can try SuperShuttle at

They have shared vans that will take you directly to your hotel. Cost about $20 per person. You can pre-pay and arrange a pickup or you can go to their booth at the airport. Depending on how many drop-offs are before you, it will take about 45 minutes to an hour.

There is also the NY Airport Service bus, which costs I think $12 per person, but will only take you to Grand Central Station, NY Penn Station, and selected midtown hotels. Don_t know if the Edison is one of them. The bus runs on a regular schedule and will also take about 45 minutes.
