Where is a good place to live around Savannah GA?|144380

My husband and I both love Savannah GA and are looking to move to the area around the end of the year. However, we_re coming from the North East and are not very familiar with the region. We are looking for somewhere with reasonable to cheap house prices, but that is still a decent place to raise a family and close to the city. Any suggestions?

  • Tybee Island would be the best but the most expensive. I would suggest taking a look at Whitmarsh Island. Both are really close to Savannah but the crime is ? of what you will find in Savannah. Personally I would pay a little more and make sure that it was safe for me and my family.

  • For inexpensive and family friendly - I would look in the Pooler area. It_s 10-15 minute drive to downtown Savannah. There are dozens of housing communities (some very established like Southbridge, and some that are brand new). The area is constantly growing. And the public schools in West Chatham (that_s the county) are much better than in the city of Savannah. It is also not as crime ridden as Savannah.

Another area (probably a little more expensive) is Wilmington or Whitemarsh Island. Half way between Savannah and Tybee (the beach!) Good schools, low crime, affordable areas.

Savannah is a great place to live! good luck with the move!
