What should we do on a trip to New York City?|109397

My 13-year old daughter and I are going into New York for a weekend in the Spring. We are going to see Shrek and Billy Elliot on Broadway, and we are going to try the frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3. What else should we do?

  • I agree with the first poster, with Little Italy, Central Park, ChinaTown, etc.

    Also,
    Central Park Zoo
ESPN Zoo, if either of you are into sports, this IS the place to be! TVs everywhere, GREAT food, and games on the upper floor!!
Toys R_ Us in Times Square
FAO Schwartz, LOVE it there! Go and have fun!
Rockefeller Center and the Top of the Roc
    Empire State Building
Circle Line Boat, you see the whole Island from the boat!
Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
5th Avenue and all the stores, just walk around
You can also go to one or more of the many Museums
    South Street Seaport
    Food Network Studios!

I hope this helps and that you and your daughter have a GREAT trip!

  • Visit Central Park it is beautiful in the spring, there are lots of people there and so many great activities and street performers and just a good place to take in an eyeful of New Yorkers. (just don_t go at night).
You can get to Central Park by strolling uptown on 5th Avenue where you can also see Rockerfella Center, NBC, ABC studios and Trump Plaza. The Park is right across from The Plaza Hotel.

Check out Times Square at night. Well, you will see it after your Broadway show anyway as that_s where it is.

Go to the East Villiage, Chinatown, Soho and Little Italy. That is a lot of walking but it is all downtown (below the 30_s- The streets go in a grid by numbers so it_s easy to navigate). There are a lot of artists, cool boutiques, restraunts and culture in those areas. Plus you can shop on Canal Street and get some wonderful deals.

Perhaps visit Ground Zero to pay respects.

If you want to go really fancy meal try La Cirque restraunt- make reservations ahead of time.
There is a restraunt called Elaines that is on the East side. It_s just a hole in the wall but for some reason celebrities seem to hang out there, especially after Broadway shows.

Get your nails done as it is very inexpensive for a mani/pedi in NYC and they are every 5 ft. it seems.

Empire State Building on East 33rd.

    Well, HAVE FUN!

  • I went to NYC with my friends for one day and here_s what we did:

-checked out the TODAY show at 7am
-toured _the top of the rock_ at NBC studios
    -rode the subway
-got tickets for _Hairspray_ at the TKTS stand (reeeally fun show)
-shopped in Chinatown (people come up and try to sell you knockoff purses... we went with one into a back room of a little store and it was kind of creepy at first but they don_t try to hurt you or anything so i would try it out!)
    -rode in taxis
    -ate a hot dog!
-ate NYC pizza! (don_t go to a restaurant you can go to at home)
-walked up and down 5th avenue (but we didn_t buy anything because it was really expensive)
-shop in FAO Schwartz (she might like that)

...and that was just one day!

  • Empire state building.
Little Italy, Great food on Mulberry St.
China Town is great for shopping on Canal St.
    Time Square.
    Central Park Zoo.
    Central Park.
Statue of Liberty and Elis Island Tour.
Liberty Science Center. Take the Ferry.
Boat Tour of the City. Good Pictures
Museum of Natural History. The movie _Night at the Museum_ Ben Stiller.
    Good Morning America.
    Sooo so much to do.

WARNING: Do Not Eat At Any Stands.

  • Go to time square during the night and go into all the stores. You_ll be surprised when you walk into the toy_s R us or the M and M store. Also try a hot dog from one of the street vendors.
