  • He needs to send you an official invitation. You just can_t walk in and watch the proceedings. You will need a picture ID and wear something nice. NO jeans or belly tops! It_s like nothing you_ve ever seen before, all military and proper. You can take pictures but, please don_t yell at him when his Company marches by. Be sure to stand for all the opening and closing ceremonies. This is a solemn and meaningful occasion. He_s starting a career that you will both have an adventure on. After the closing they will break ranks and you can visit with him until he retrieves his sea bag from the barracks. He will have lots of stuff to tote along with his orders, and records in a Large brown envelope. Make sure you put it in the front of the car because it_s now part of his life and will be until he gets out or retires in 20 years. Please excuse his language, we added salt and plenty of it! His vocabulary has taken on some major changes, if he refers to walls as bulkheads and the toilet as the head don_t worry, he knows where they are! Please don_t make extra loud noises as he might just jump up and be half dressed before he remembers that he_s at home. Enjoy your sailor and all the new things he has to offer. Remember, he volunteered and it_s the service that comes first. If you decide to take on the duties as a Navy spouse, you have the toughest job of all, there will be times when things break and he_s out to sea, the children will wonder if he_s ever coming home and the car is on it_s last legs.
Bless you my child, it_s a tough road, in the end, after 20 years, the mortgage gets paid by the government.
