What is there to do in Orlando that is free of charge?|125186

We have a weekend to do things, but little money. Can anyone suggest things to do that are free or inexpensive? It_s my 19 yr old son and I, so not really interested in the kid stuff.

  • YOu could walk around Old Town. A few shops--cute.~~

  • I was just going to suggest Lake Eola too. If you can pick up one of those Orlando Weekly newspapers they may tell you if there are any shows going on downtown, sometimes they are free. Another option might be to drive out to New Syrna Beach since it_s only about 45minutes away off I4 and is free and this time of year wouldn_t be too crowded. Bike week starts soon so just be careful of that!

  • There are a ton of things to do. You can simply do lunch at Lake Eola. Grab something cheap to eat, toss down a blanket and enjoy an afternoon in the sun. You can rent a swan paddle boat and go around the lake for an hour. That used to be $5 or $10. You can rent a Canoe at the Wekiwa marina, and canoe all day up and down the Wekiwa river. You_ll see all kinds of wildlife from turtles, to snakes and even alligators. I believe its $16 for the rental. You can also go down to North Frontage road just off South Semoran at the airport and park and watch the aircraft come in, they are so low you can almost touch them. Thats all free unless you decide on a hot dog from the vendor. There are litterally hundreds of great pubs and bars to go to to play darts and watch sports games. An order of wings, pitcher of beer or soda, and a few hours of pool or darts will run about $45 for example.

  • If you want a fun thing for you and your 19 year old, drive East to The Space Center. It_s free, although there are some things to spend money on, you could fill your day there for free. Displays, movies, etc.

For a nominal charge don_t miss the moon rocket display. It will bring back memories when you walk along the entire lenght of this Saturn V rocket.

You can drive over to Cape Canaveral Air Force Base and see all the really old missles. It is also free.
