Which Hawaiian island other than Oahu is the best to visit and why?|143592

I have been to Oahu 4 times and Maui once. I_m going again with a friend who has never been before and we will go to Oahu but we also would like to spend a few days on another Island. These days will be our relaxation days so we are looking for stunning scenery and great beaches! We are going in February _09. Also, where is a great place to stay?

  • I have visited Oahu,Maui,Kauai,Hawai_i and Molokai. Of course being on any one of the Beautiful Hawai_ian Islands (in my opinion) is preferable to being Anywhere else in the world (but then I_m a little bias)...I enjoy Oahu for the Night Life, nostalgia and stimulation of ALOT of people in Paradise, as do my 3 teens. That is why every time we go to Hawai_i we Always visit Oahu (Waikiki) first then move on to a more Relaxing Island to unwind before going home to California...Each of the other Islands offers its own form of beauty and fun,Hawai_i (The Big Island) is bigger than all of the other Islands put together and allows for a variety of climates and scenery...from lush and green and very wet(Hilo)
to the RELATIVELY dryer areas between Hilo and Kona, miles and miles of black lava beds as well as the many many Beaches ...Black Sand...Green Sand...these are beaches you may never see anywhere else except Hawai_i. Then there is the Mountain area(Waimea and Kamuela) on the way up to Mauna Kea...where it actually gets cold (I was just there last month) Molokai is very secluded and not very populated therefore if you are looking to get away from everyTHING and everyONE...this is your Island...Kauai is Fabulous...Beautiful Beaches...Lush and Green pretty much everywhere...BUT my personal favorite Island to visit is my MAUI...Kaanapali, Kapalua, Lahaina, Napili, Wailea and The Fabulous and World Famous Hana Highway...so many things to do and see....Regardless of the one you choose...you really can_t go wrong...Aloha,Enjoy..A Hui Ho..

  • well Hawaii(big island) has many things to see and do with the volcano park on the Hilo side, and capt cook history with very good coffee on the Kona side.it also has beautiful gardens, beaches, waterfalls.and activities to do.
Maui has the second largest city in Hawaii, with the most beautiful beaches(it_s country without losing the comforts of the city)
Kaui,Molokai,Lani are very laid back so you get the real country feeling.

  • OK, so I admit I_m biased -- had family on both Maui and Big Island. But I will say Maui always had gorgeous beaches and had the most pleasant weather compared to the other islands. You wouldn_t think the weather would differ between such a closely-knit chain of islands, but you_d be surprised. Maui has Haleakala Crater, which is the home of one of the most stunning sunrise views you_ll ever be blessed with seeing -- if you don_t mind waking up REALLY early. There are also biking trips you can take where a bus takes you up country near Makawao and you just bike your way down and take in the beautiful scenery. Big Island has Volcanoes National Park, which has Kilauea, one of the most active volcanoes around. You won_t be able to see the lava coming out -- mostly underground and goes straight into the sea right now -- but you can walk across the cooled lava flows and it_s such a strange, unique experience. Bring hiking boots or good tennis shoes; the lava breaks like glass and not pleasant if you have sandals. Kona has the beaches on Big Island and they have a lot of snorkel/diving spots in the area that are really lovely if you want to see sea turtles.

  • It depends on what you really like. Each island is different from each other. We have been to Maui which has everything from nice beaches, to a vibrant nightlife and good shopping. I also think that the best luau is on Maui. When we visited Kauai, it was really laid back and there_s less hotels and activities there. It was nice though. It_s still Hawaii! Hope this helps. Aloha!

  • I would either pick Kauai or Molokai. Kauai because of it_s nice beaches and lush scenery, or Molokai because it_s isolated and remote. For more Hawaii info about the islands, see here:

  • Try the Big Island. You can get a room for two at a plantation house for a decent price and it is relatively close to the Volcano park.

  • The big island has a lot to see and there are climates for everybody from hot humid rain forest to dry desert conditions
    your choice.

  • Maui ...

  • the volcanoes on the big island
visit the smallest or least popular island
    for a change of pace

  • go to maui and go snorkling and parasailing.its really beautiful me and my family saw a big turtle when we were snorkling.

  • Kauai!!! its beautiful with waterfalls and green mountains!!
