Whats the fastest way to get from San Francisco to OAK airport by way of a ferry? Bay Bridge closed Labor Day|190582

I_ve been planning a trip to SF for months and booked a flight to OAK. I was planning to ride the BART from the airport to SF and back. I just found out the that Bay Bridge will be closed Aug 31-Sept 4! I think my only alternative is to ride a ferry but I don_t know which one to take, where to purchase tix, or how to get to the airport from where ever the ferry lands. Help! All the SF official transportation websites are so vague in describing alternate routes!

  • yeah, you can still take BART from SF to the oakland airport. no problemo.

from the oakland airport, you have to take a transfer bus to the BART station, then take a colma or SFairport train to SF.
from SF take a fremont or dublin/pleasanton train and get off at the oakland coliseum station, then take the shuttle bus back to the oakland airport.

you need worry about the bridge only if you are driving, and if you are, other bridges will be open.

  • Wow, I wondered about the bridge being closed, too. The only time it_s ever been closed was when the segment collapsed during the quake of 89.

However, I looked it up, and this seems to be true:

Seismic Safety Project: This website is designed to offer a window into the historic work being done on the Bay BridgeC from the retrofitting of the original West Span, to the demolition and replacement of the West Approach, to the construction of the new Skyway and dramatic single tower Self-Anchored Suspension (SAS) span

    Wonders must be ceasing...

  • The bay bridge closed? Where did you get that information?

  • I don_t think you understand the mechanics of this...

Why would BART be affected by any Bay Bridge closures? It_s not a bus, you know.

BART is a subway system, the trains travel *under* the bay. The Bay Bridge is a freeway, it_s a roadway *over* the bay. The closure of one does not affect the other at all.

BART will continue to operate as normal. This includes service from Oakland Airport. The only difference is BART will be more crowded than usual because the motorists will park in the suburbs and take the train into the city.

  • Take the subway. It_s called BART.

  • Just piling on--BART goes under the Bay, so will not be affected by the bridge closure, other than being more crowded; however, they_re going to add more trains.

  • The Bay Bridge and BART are not the same thing. BART will not be closed, you can still take BART.
