Where should my family vacation in October in the Southeastern US?|125945

We are looking for activities that tweens and parents could enjoy doing together - camping, shopping, eating out, museums, musical theatre, even sports events...But, not necessarily anywhere too _touristy_. Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

  • You might think about Memphis, Nashville or even Atlanta.

  • I_d say Charleston S.C. The weather will be tolerable, and there are plenty of B_B_s in the old section of town. You will need to book those in advance tho on weekends that the Citadel has home games. There is a lot to see in and around Charleston.

  • Actually, I have heard that the campgrounds at Disney in Orlando are superb with the characters coming out, sing alongs and lots of activities. I am told it is a memorable experience. It is also not the height of the season, so the lines are shorter.
Tampa has the largest science museum in the southeast, MOSI. It has Busch Gardens, which is the US_s 3rd largest zoo, there are plays at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center www.tbpac.org. The Buccaneers will be playing but it is hard to get tickets. International Mall in Tampa has wonderful shopping and there are lots of large malls in Orlando.

  • That_s easy, the blue ridge mountains are a good place to visit this time of year there are some many places along the parkway you can go to.

  • Gatlinburg, TN in the Smokey Mountains. The fall foliage will peak in October and it will be beautiful. You can stay in a hotel right downtown, or rent a chalet in the mountains. There is tons of shopping and attractions. You can go to Ripley_s Believe it or Not Museum, the Ripley_s aquarium, and there is a ski resort with year round ice skating. About 10-15 minutes away is Pigeon Forge, TN, which has Dollywood, The Dixie Stampede, and a huge outlet mall, and tons of putt-putt and go car places. There really is too much to name. You can check it all out at
