Which was the faster and cheaper way to go Kansas City from Chicago Airport and how much will be pay?|159499

We want to go to Kansas city from Chicago airport on April 6th about 4:30PM but don_t know which was the faster and cheaper way, by train or by taxi or by airplane? And how much, do you have an idea?

  • Considering that they are over 500 miles apart, I_d probably rule out taxi.

A quick check on Amtrak_s website shows a one-way fare for that day at $65 at around 7 hours (or cheaper if you want to leave that morning, take 12 hours, and change trains in St Louis).

If you book right now, Southwest shows some fares even cheaper than those from Midway. Those all run in the hour-and-a-half range.

Of course to narrow it down more, we_d need to know if this is round trip or one way, if round trip when you wanted to head back, and which Chicago airport (Midway or OHare) you mean.

Other points to keep in mind: KC_s airport is well away from the city center - make sure you have arranged for transportation ahead of time. KC_s Amtrak station is in Union Station, in the heart of midtown. Mass transit in KC consists of the busses, and that_s it (though it is a decent bus system). Most of the time, if you need a taxi, you_ll need to call a dispatcher - there are not a lot of places you can just hail a cab. And KC has a lot of sprawl to it.

  • Definitely check out the Southwest flights. They_re the cheapest around and getting to Chicago will take one short hour. Have fun!
