How much does a car cost to travel all 50 US states?|112021

My friend and I are both from Scotland and coming to the states soon. We plan on buying a car and seeing all 50 states. Any ideas what the best type of car/model we should go for? I have no idea how much cars cost over there. We have between $8000 and $12000, is this enough?

  • About $100,000 probably. It would have to be one hell of a car to drive to Hawaii.

You can_t drive to Hawaii as it is a group of island in the middle of the Pacific and it is probably not feasible to drive to Alaska as you have to drive a great distance through Canada and you would need a separate visa for Canada. Most people do not attempt the lower 48 and Alaska in the same trip. They usually do one or the other as the Alaska Highway to get to Alaska is quite trying in itself.

You can probably find a car in that range to drive the lower 48 states. Keep in mind that it will take you many months to drive to all 48 lower states with all the expense to go along with it (gas, tolls, food, hotels or campgrounds) and these expenses will probably equal those expense again (another $5,000 to $10,000 or even more depending on where you stay at night).

  • It_s enough for a car yes and a good car but i would suggest finding someone who knows a lot about cars not just someone trying to sell you one better yet think about renting a car...i have no idea if that_s more expensive but look into it that way you don_t have to bring a car back with you, just look into all the possibilities and there is always public transport lol yea i can_t imagine dragging around suitcases on a bus but maybe a coach that takes a people round a couple states.
    Good Luck. x
