Where is the best place to live in the USA and what do you base your answer on?|117291

I would like input from people all over the USA as to where is the best place to live and raise a family. I_m interested in areas relatively free of extreme heat and cold as well as natural disasters that have good schools and low crime rates. A reasonable cost of living is a must. I am aware of websites like Sperling_s Best Places but I_m wondering if there are others. I would like to hear from people that actually live in, or have moved to their own personal favorite location in the USA.

  • San Antonio, Texas ...

Large city (2Million and growing) with a small city atmosphere.
Hot summers (for 2 months) but moderate temperatures the rest of the year.
Low cost of living, apartments run about $450 for a 1 bedroom and houses run about $120,000 for a nice home.
Good mix of industry and technology jobs available.
No real natural disasters, we are too far north for hurricanes, too far south for tornadoes and never have earthquakes.
We sit on a natural limestone aquifer so have some of the best water quality of any city in the USA.

  • well ya. isn_t that avg for the us? or atleast buffalo, ny

  • I moved to a small town in North Dakota about 5 months ago. The town has like 750 residents, and everyone is incredibly friendly. I_m sure we have as much drug activity as other towns our size, but you don_t hear about it. The schools are awesome, and we only have one cop for the whole town. The weather_s iffy since you_re looking for something more moderate. It can get up too 100 in the summer and as cold as 30 below in the winter. There are occasional tornados, but they_re very, very rare. I_ve fallen in love with it out here, and I moved here from Seattle, which has a little bit of everything. That_s where I_d recommend if you_re looking for a more urban lifestyle.

  • Ashe, Wataga, Avery, or Wilkesboro. It has a low crime rate, has a spectacular view. There_s also malls, resturants, and resorts. Skiing, mini golf, and bowling are some vacation areas. The cost is pretty low, it depends on what you are buying. It_s warm at summer. BUT, near winter it snows frequently. We average in the mountains, about 2 big snow storms. We don_t get hit by hurricanes or tornados. Thers a couple of schools in Ashe that are really nice. The highschool is clean, as well as the middle school. There are three elementary schools, westwood, blue ridge, and mountain view.
I hope thats enough, good luck.

  • Either Boulder, Co if you want to go on the more cold side or Santa Clarita, Ca if you want to go on the warmer side. Santa Clarita Valley is located an hour east of the ocean, an hour north of Los Angeles, and an hour south of snow. It also has a Six Flags, and has one of the lowest crime rates in America.

  • $450 for a one bedroom?.....I should move, I live in Toronto and pay $2,300 for a 1150 square foot apartment....$450!! wow
