Where in San Diego can we ride horses on the beach and go whale watching?|152124

My caughter has always wanted to ride horses on the beach and I_ve always wanted to go on a whale watching tour. Where can we do that in San Diego? Preferably close to each other.

  • This is the only place I know of in San Diego where you can take the horses onto the beach:

    Beach Horse Rentals
    2060 Hollister St.
    Imperial Beach
    San Diego, CA 92154
    619/559-2235

You can observe the whales migrating from Cabrillo National Monument in the Point Loma area of San Diego.

If you want to go out on a boat whale watching excursion, there are a number of boat tour companies that have whale watching tours. You will find a list of them with info and links to their web sites at:

  • Whale watching is available almost everywhere in San Diego that has sport-fishing boats. In the whale migration season (two times a year), the sport-fishing boats double as whale-watcher boats. There is also San Diego Harbor Excursions that runs whale-watching trips out of the harbor in season, spring and fall.

Not too many places to ride a horse on the beach. They are all used by tourists and nobody like horse turds on the public beaches.

There are horse riding facilities in the area south of Imperial Beach and north of the border that may have beach riding areas, but it is also full of illegals and the beach there is sometimes closed because of pollution from the Tijuana River. Most of those facilities closed after the last flood of the area when the City said that they will no longer rescue stranded animals left behind by their owners.

  • you can go whale watching at the Harbor. Harbor is very close to airport.
I_ve never heard we can ride horses on the beach.
