How safe are the roommate finder sites?|141980

I_m looking at moving 2600 miles across country and need a roomie, but with the distance I_m having to depend on online resources. Are these usually pretty safe or has anyone had bad experiences with this?

Is this a service that finds you someone? You can also check out the roommate sites where you read individual profiles and then you can email and talk to people etc. That way you can see what you have in common and how it might work out.
