How does transfering between MUNI and BART work?|126552

I am new to SF. I have an interview on Friday in Oakland.

To get to the interview I will have to take a MUNI bus, then BART. On the way back it will be the opposite.

The MUNI website only has information for transfers that start BART -_ MUNI then are MUNI -_ BART on the return trip (the opposite of what I need).

How do transfers work in my situation?

  • When you_re going BART to Muni, there_s a machine before you exit BART; push a button and get a discount coupon, which you give the bus driver with the printed discount fare.
When you_re going Muni to BART, there is no such option.

It might make more sense to just hold on to the transfer from the first Muni ride, on your way to the interview. Get one when you get on; it should still be valid upon your return, which means your return bus rude is free. If the first transfer is expired when you return, then you can get the coupon for a (25cent?) discount on the return bus trip.

  • You don_t really get a transfer per se, you just get a very small discount on your fare. It_s not a huge deal, and I wouldn_t worry about it to save a quarter on the fare.
