What type of car is reliable to get to canada from california carrying 4 passengers for a week and a half?|191588

And where can i find a car rental place in southern california that would allow me to rent one to drive to canada?

  • There is nothing really special about that trip, so your question comes down to _what type of car is reliable_.

In general, just about any fairly new car will be reliable over the short run. For quite some time, Japanese cars such as Toyota and Honda have had superiour reliability records, but the American car makers have made great strides. If you have any car that_s less than two years old, you should be fine, and even one that_s got a couple more years than that should be ok, too.

In the end, it comes down to the individual vehicle, and if it_s a private car, a good mechanical checkover should prevent any major problems. With a rental car, if you stick to main routes, they can reach you easily with a replacement in the unlikely event that you do suffer a breakdown. Most rental cars are new or near-new.

It could be a problem to cross the border on a ONE WAY rental (where you_re not returning to the US), but other than that, there should not be any big problem.

I would take a rough guess in the range of $200-300/week for a car that will hold 4 people comfortable.

  • my girlfriend just completed the same trip 2 weeks ago from la to vancouver in a 2005 nissan altima...no problems at all with her car so I can safely recommend a nissan.

  • Any of the major car rental companys. Hertz, Avis, Enterprise.
