Can visitors to the USA get a refund of taxes paid during vacations?|196329

Does anyone know if visitors to the USA can get a refund of the taxes they_ve paid during their vacation - like reimbursement at the border as they leave the country or something? The UK and Australia have similar systems and I_m wondering if the US do. I_m planning to go for a 3-4 week holiday next year and am curious. I_m not a US citizen (obviously).

  • Great question. Great idea.

No once they get their hands on your money, you cant get it back.
By next year they will have raised sales tax even more...as city _ states _ federal ..every one ! is low on money.
Sales tax goes for upkeep of the state, and city .. parks-roads- police etc. Which you_ll be using, so that would be their argument, Im sure. They have plans for all kinds of new taxes, too !
Its possible you_ll have hotel tax too, if youre going to a tourist type area.

    Sigh.

  • No, if you buy anything here you need to pay the taxes on it. It_s a sales tax, not a citizen tax.
