The best camping is at Carpinteria State Beach... In fact, most of the best sites in SoCal are at the beach: El Capitan, Refugio, McGrath, Broome, Leo Carillos, Doheny, San Clemente, South Carlsbad and San Elijo. They are far and away the most popular sites.

However, at this late date, you don_t have much of a chance of scoring a site, especially around Thansgiving.

Your best bet might be Lake Cachuma, where it_s first-come, first-served. Good luck.

I don_t know if you_re interested in hiking/backpacking but I_ve always wanted to go backpack in the Cleveland Nat. forest. It wouldn_t be too cold at night, comparatively, (around mid 50_s to low 60_s right now), and in the day it_s perfect weather for hiking.

Joshua Tree is nice. At this time of year, the desert can be a little cold at night but not too bad.
