How long will it take to drive from Cupertino (near San Jose) to Los Angeles this Thursday?|164758

I_m planning to leave late morning and I want to get to LA before 6 (laker_s game) because I want to watch it. About how long will it take including all that traffic and rush hour?

  • not that long its like 4-5 hours but you could take a plane its like $100 and it only takes like an hour. plus its better to take a plane because gas would cost you around that anyways. but its also good to take a car because you can drive around. but what ever is cool

  • It really all depends WHERE in LA you need to go to. Valley? Hollywood? Compton?

If you take the fastest route, you will take 101 south to 152 east, then turn on the afterburners and jet down to LA on I-5. As you approach LA, your first sign of traffic may be around Glendale or Burbank. But it depends on where you are going after that. You definitely want to avoid downtown. But once you get past Griffith Park southbound on the 5, you will start hitting outbound LA traffic.

10:00 is a safe start time. I_d worry if you didn_t start until noon. Remember, you cannot break the laws of physics.

  • if you_re driving 75ish it_s about 5 hr w/your gas stop in good traffic. dude .. leave a little earlier. any nocal rush traffic compared to l.a. traffic is bush league. you don_t wanna be getting to the outskirts after 4pm .. getting there early and staring at a wall is still better than that mess. if you can get onto the 5 by 11ish you_re gold.

  • In a perfect world, if you take Highway 5 it would take five hours. However, as you note, rush hour traffic will be intense, especially around Staples Center.

I_d say leave at least by 10:00. Better to have extra time in LA than be stressed out.

  • havn_t made that drive in a while, but it used to take us about 5 hours, to play it safe, plan for 8 incase traffic gets bad or something . . . it never heurts to get there a little early ;-)

  • Somewhere between 6 hours and 2 days, depending on traffic.
  • What is the best hotel in Philadelphia Pa?|189956

Okay I admit I am sort of a hotel snob. I like 4 and 5 star hotels. My family and I are going to philly for the weekend and I want a nice hotel but I would like it really close to all the historical things. Does anyone have any suggestion. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • If you want to be by the historical sites, you want to stay in Olde City. (Although I agree with the other posters that it would also be great to stay in Rittenhouse.) In Olde City, try to get a room at the Omni. It_s fancy, beautiful, and in the heart of Philly_s historical sites.

  • It really depends on what you are looking for.

The top two luxury hotels in the city are the four seasons and 1615 rittenhouse. They are both located near the Rittenhouse square area.

However, given your preference for historicals, I would check out the Sheraton Society Hill, the Hyatt Penns Landing and the Holiday Inn Historic district, all are in the historic area.

You can_t go wrong with either, really, if you choose to stay in Rittenhouse, the Phlash shuttle is still running until the end of the month, or its a nice walk.

  • Some suggestions:

TripAdvisor ranks the Alexander Inn (
    http://tinyurl.com/4vxta7)
as the best hotel, but it is a 3-star hotel.

The first 4-star hotel listed by TripAdvisor (which is usually quite reliable) is the Sofitel (
    http://tinyurl.com/3g7ekl
    or
    http://www.booking.com/hotel/us/sofitel-

Another type of ranking could be found at Booking.com, which is another reliable site, because they basically email people who have booked with them, asking them to rank (something that prevents _fake_ reviews):

  • I live in Philly, I had tro stay at the Holiday Inn on 4th _ Arch which is in the historical district.
Marriott _ Hilton are also in Center City close to shopping a few blocks from all of the history stuff. It is nice.
If you want luxury the Four Seasons on the Parkway is the way to go.

  • How much would a taxi cost for about 32 miles in the Philly area?|166381

i live in the suburbs and i want to get to camden.
is it even possible to get a taxi from there, and if so how much would it cost if its about 32 miles.

i NEED to get to warped tour.

  • Did you try
    http://www.taxifarefinder.com/
    ?

  • Shoredude almost had it right.

Take the Septa Regional Rail train into Market East, but forgo the walk to the river from there. It_s about ten blocks from the station and if you_re unfamiliar with the city, you_ll probably wind up lost. Also the ferry is VERY slow, and not as dependable as you might like in terms of on-time.

Instead follow the signs inside Market East station to the PATCO Hi-Speed-Line at 8th Street. You can reach it underground from the Market East station. There_s a PATCO station just across the river in Camden, a short walk from the concert center.

  • Consider $2.50 per mile, so you_re easily over $75.

Take the train into Philly and get off at Market East. Walk east on Market St. to Penn_s Landing and take the ferry over to Camden which will leave you off right by the Susquehanna Bank Center (formerly the Tweeter Center).

PS..There_s no way I_d ever think of a young woman walking the streets of Camden. It_s a few blocks walk and not into a nice neighborhood. So avoid the PATCO.

  • Don_t take a taxi to Camden, definitely take the high speed line. Google PATCO to get the exact fare, but I think it_ll be $4.50 round trip. Or you could pay between $40 and $50 for a cab. PATCO is great though, and drops you off right there, either Broadway or City Hall stop.

  • You better take a loan out.
  • What are some nice florida beaches with good weather in February?|188515

We need some nice beaches. We_re planning a trip. We don_t know where is good and where is not. we are clueless and just want to get tan.
Good weather is sunny and 60_s and above.

    thanksya

  • You can try Clearwater or St Pete on the West coast of FL or Daytona or Cocoa Beach on the east. Feb might still be a little cool but as long as the sun is out you should be able to tan in Feb. The water might be a little chilly.

  • As a St. Pete resident I would have to agree with Josh, the Gulf Beaches (Clearwater, St. Pete Beach, Madeira Beach, etc) in Pinellas county are beautiful.

St Petersburg is nick named the _Sunshine City_ because we get an average of 360 days of sunshine each year. So if you choose to vacation here the weather will more than likely be _good._

You can find out more about the City of St. Pete using this link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Petersb

Pinellas county is home to Caladesi Island State Park which is America_s #1 Beach for 2008. The beach is located in Dunedin, Florida

    More info about Caladesi Island:

    http://www.floridastateparks.org/Calades

Pinellas county is also home to Ft. Desoto Park which consistently ranks in America_s top 10 beaches. In 2005 it was ranked the #1 Beach in the nation.

    More info about Ft. Desoto:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_De_Sot

Siesta Beach in Sarasota is also very beautiful and is ranked #3 for best beaches in the U.S.

    http://www.worldhum.com/travel-blog/item

I have personally been to all of the beaches I mentioned several times and you guys will not be disappointed. All of these beaches are also in very close proximity to St. Petersburg.

  • Nowhere in Florida is guaranteed to be warm in February. Just this month we_ve had a range from 32 degrees to 82 degrees. Really cold weather only really occurs a couple of weeks or so in the winter, but you never really know. It usually doesn_t last for more than a few days or so at a time. The farther south you go, the better chance you have of consistently warmer weather. Miami, the Keys, etc. would probably be the best bet.

  • If you just want the beach, and wimpy water, then the gulf is your best bet. But if you want the beach and, the ocean for surfing, body boarding, etc., and warmer water than the gulf then south Florida-- Palm Beach, Lake Worth, Boynton, Delray etc.

Can anyone recommend the best restaurants at Disney World?|187865

I need suggestions for breakfast and dinner at each park. I also would like to know if you have any favorite downtown Disney restaurants. If there are really good resort restaurants list them too.

This is for a 9 yr old girl and mom.

  • Any of the restaurants in Epcot_s World Showcase are amazing! It all depends on what kind of cuisine you like!
The Liberty Tree Tavern is also really good in Magiv Kingdom (amazing pot roast!)
Downtown disney theres the Rainforest Cafe, which is a ton of fun for all ages!
Chef Mickey is pretty cool for character breakfast, it has all the traditional characters come around (mickey, minnie, goofy, pluto etc)
And if you want the best ice cream in the world theres a vendor outside of the France pavillion in Epcot. AMAZING ice cream!!!

  • AK: Breakfast: character meal at Tusker House, Dinner at Yak_Yeti

MK: character breakfast at Cinderella_s Royal Table, Dinner: character meal at Crystal Palace

Studios: Nothing special for breakfast, dinner at Sci-Fi Diner

Epcot: Breakfast at Sunshine Seasons Food Fair, Dinner at the San Angel Inn.

Also--see this page for links to rankings of all the sit-down restaurants, including those at the resorts.
    http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-

There_s too many great places to dine at the resorts to list here, but the character brunch at Chef Mickey_s (contemporary) and the family skillet meal at the Whispering Canyon (WIlderness Lodge) are particularly good for a family like yours!!

At Downtown Disney, the kid-pleasers is the Rainforest Cafe

Hope this helps and have a great trip!! Dave

  • On my last nine-day trip the Tutto Italia Ristorante, in the Italy section of Epcot, was my absolute favorite place to eat. They are a bit pricey if paying, but if on the dining plan it just counts as one dinner, not two like the character buffet in the Magic Kingdom with less appetizing food at their buffet.

The food was absolutely stunning, the dessert succulent, the service better than I expect (even from Disney), and the atmosphere, while crowded, was fantastic. Well worth the extra-high tip we gave our server (we were on the dining plan).

Oh, and the one by the race cars mentioned above (at Magic Kingdom)? I didn_t like it at all. Even though they shared a kitchen, they have three order sections dedicated to three different menus respectively, and would not let me get fries at the sandwich side even though they were plentiful 20 feet away at the burger side (again, all connected...they couldn_t walk over and grab some fries, because _the computer wouldn_t let them_).

They were also turning people away when I was there because they were _too crowded_ even though there were open tables and lines weren_t that long (I had to talk my way in to rejoin my family when I went out to get other food instead of ordering there, and that was a chore). I will never eat at that restaurant again. And if I see the manager I spoke with at a different restaurant (Disney likes to move management around), I will not eat there either. He was no help at all...just defensive and in over his head.

  • There are so many, I_ll give you my favorite counter service and table service in each park. Check out www.allears.net for current menus and reviews from all restaurants

Magic Kingdom: Pecos Bill_s (Counter Service), Crystal Palace (Table Service)

Epcot: Sunshine Seasons (CS), Le Cellier (TS)

Studios: Backlot Express (CS), Mama Melrose (TS)

Animal Kingdom: Flametree BBQ (CS), Tusker House (TS)

In the resorts some great table service restaurants are: California Grill, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Boma, and many others! Hope you have a great trip!

  • Magic Kingdom: Crystal Palace (character dining with Pooh and friends) Liberty Tavern

Animal Kingdom- Yak and Yeti (fantastic Pan-Asian food)

    Epcot: Garden Grill, Japan, Mexico

Hollywood Studios: Mama Melrose, Sci Fi Drive in Theater,

These are all sit down, most of the food carts are ok, nothing exciting. For breakfast we usually keep supplies in the room or eat at the resort

  • There is one in fantasy land right near the race cars. It serves several different things but their burgers and hot dogs are big and they have a whole condiment bar. One of the best values in the park. Epcot is pricier...you would be better to pick which country you want food from....Germany has a buffet. There is a House of Blues at Downtown Disney that is good.

  • magic kingdom:
    liberty tree tavern
    crystal palace
cinderella_s royal table in the castle.

    epcot:
    electic unbrella
    coral reef
    garden grill
    chefs de france
    bistro de pais

    hollywood studios:
    sci-fi drive in theatre
    50_s prime time cafe
    hollywood and vine

    animal kingdom:
    rainforest cafe

    downtown disney:
    captain jacks

    hotels:
    the contemporary hotel
    chef mickeys
    california grill

  • I like the list already compiled... but wanted to add in that Ohana at the Poly is excellent - but only if you like meat intensive meals.

Stay away from the Wave at the Contemporary. It is overpriced for the taste and quantity of food you receive. I_ve gone there twice and thought it was terrible both times.

Where is the best place to live around Boston?|177891

I have lived in Boston for 5 years and in the same place for 3. I_d like to move out of the city, somewhere quiet, but close enough for job opportunities. I was thinking Malden, but I_m not sure. I also don_t drive, so it needs to be somewhat near the T. What do you recommend?

  • Newton is one of the safest cities in America; if not the safest indeed. Cambridge is a university town, so it would be great if your job involved higher education.

  • everett
    its not like malden
ive lived in malden it became very dark/dirty
everett is nice and clean good schools, their building a very huge nice high school, they have alot of parks
    but alot of fires o.0

  • Newton, I lived in Newton, and its a really great little community. Its on the D line, and still quiet and has a surburban small time feel.

  • Watertown, its a 15 min drive to Boston, and it has some cute little places. And the real estate has a really good value. Its easy to get to other places and there are a good deal of parks in the area. Their are lots of busses and it connects to T lines.

  • Stoneham. Or is that too far?

What areas should I avoid in Chicago as a tourist?|190487

I am going to Milwaukee,WI to visit my aunt and while I_m there I am planning to go to Chicago and explore. What areas, neighborhoods, etc. should I avoid as a tourist?

  • As a tourist, I assume you will be in downtown Loop area of Chicago. Around Navy Pier, Michigan Ave, Watertower, The Museums. In which case you will be fine. Don_t walk around late at night, don_t go off the beaten path. Keep you eyes are ears open and use common sense.
