We_re going for 7 days in mid-May and have a pretty tight budget, so, besides the beach, what should we do? Also, is it possible to hike up Diamond Head without getting a guide? What about the other hiking trails? Are trail guides mandatory or can we just go by ourselves?
Any other tips are appreciated!
There are a lot of hiking trails, all free. Start with a buss pass

Email any questions to me. Take the beach to Sandy Beach and Makupu_s Lighthouse (another free hike). Be careful and Sandy Beach and Makapu_u Beach, the waves are sometimes dangerous.
You can also ride around most of the island on the bus, normally $2, or free with the pass.Diamond Head is not free.
Diamond head is free and no guide is needed. Actually you don_t need guides at any of the hiking trails. When hiking a long time ago when I was little my family and I would just head on up the trails ourselves.
Just this March three of my friends and I went hiking alone.
So, in short, you don_t need a guide for hiking trails.
