Same as with your last question.
You can always try Priceline. I use it all the time and get nice 3 - 4 star hotels right in Midtown Manhattan all the time. You have to _name your own price_. There is a web site which tells you the method of getting the very best deal on a high quality hotel room in NYC and explains exactly how to do this with Priceline. Go to the section on _Cheap Hotels in the City_ or something like that.

Have fun and good luck!
I_m sorry, I know that doesn_t answer your question. I_m not trying to be obnoxious. But seriously, a reasonably-priced hotel on 5th Avenue will be FAR north, not really the ideal location you_re hoping for. If you get a better recommendation, look up its location carefully. If it_s not below 96th street, then you_re not really where you want to be at all.
If you_re willing to negotiate as to your location, you could try Bed and Coffee (

in the East Village, which is a really good location though not 5th Ave. It is very reasonably priced.
Good luck!
