How many days should we spend in New Orleans during Christmas?|160205

When I watched TV the other night, the government Officials encouraged tourists to visit New Orleans. They said it helped building up the economy. So, me and my friend are thinking a vacation to New Orleans during Christmas.

How many days should we spend in New Orleans? We want to see the French Quarter. But, if we go during Christmas, can we see anything? Besides the French Quarter, what else can we do? Remember we only have 3 days. We don_t want to spend too much time on traffic.

Any good eating places in New Orleans?

We haven_t been since the floods, but before that we went several times.....once the day after xmas. Stayed till NewYear_s eve. LOTS to do and a whole lot of fun.

Try Mulates and some of the other well-known places. Go to a bookstore and get yourself a Fodor_s guide to New Orleans. It_s well worth the money and it_ll help you hit the good spots for sure.

Check out the garden district and the downtown areas, as well as the French Quarter. It_s fun everywhere. Be sure to take a riverboat cruise.....there_s a really good aquarium there....go to the revolving restuarant at the top of the World Tower (not sure of the name, but it_s the tallest building along the waterfront)....great shopping mall on the waterfront.

i agree.. you have to stay for ATLEAST a week. Just in the French Quarter alone.. you wont be able to experience everything in just 1 week. but for a start Yall can take some tours.. just go to neworleans.com .. under 101 things.. also under tours and attractions. You can take an awesome haunted history tour .. of the french quarter.. i_d recommend going to the 8pm one...

you can also take a tour on the Natchez steam boat.. you can choose to either have lunch or dinner .. while touring the Mississippi .. and listening to some great live cajun music...

You can go to the River Walk .. The French Market.. go grab a burger at Port of Call .. Take a carriage ride around the French Quarter while being told the history.. as for food.. Everywhere you go will have good food... you cant go wrong when you_re in the French Quarter.. just make sure you get to eat Gumbo and Jambalya before you leave. Also .. you_ll have to try Cafe Du Mondes beignets (pronounced Ben-Yays) and their coffee. If you dont experience those things.. then you haven_t expereinced New Orleans.. and once you have .. you wont want to leave..

a week in a half for christmas and new years, better make that two weeks. eating places? hmmm....not sure, but i bet itll be fun.

New Orleans is a city best visited by eating your way through. You really need more than three days to _dig in_, so I would give myself 5-7 days. Stay in the French Quarter or in the nearby Marigny. This allows you to walk around most of the time and still not be far from your base. You could rent a car for only part of your visit while you explore outside the Quarter.

For the Quarter, there is much to do. Of course you can go to all the bars, but let_s put that aside right now. Give yourself a day for shopping. There are antique shops, tourist shops, and assorted art shops on Royal Street and Chartres Street. There is also some interesting shopping along Decatur by the French Market.

For traditional creole cuisine, go to Galatoire_s, Arnaud_s, Brennan_s, Gumbo Shop, or Antoine_s. For other Louisiana fare, go to NOLA, Palace Cafe, GW Fins, Bourbon Oyster House, Irene_s Cuisine, or Stella. Have Beignets at Cage Du Monde, or have a full breakfast at Cafe Beignet or Petunia_s. There are so many restaurants in the French Quarter you would never have to leave the area to eat.

Other activities include: take a ride on a streetcar to the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) in City Park. The museum is nice and is in a beautiful setting at City Park. City Park also has the Celebration in the Oaks event during the holidays. It is a nighttime display of lights and other holiday festivities. Magazine Street in Uptown has nearly five miles of shopping and dining. Mafazine is best accessed by having a car, so you can stop where you want and walk around. The Audubon Zoo is in Audubon Park by Tulane and Loyola Universities. By the way, you will drive through uptown and the garden district to ge to the zoo. Spend some time driving around in the garden district, it has some of the finest 19th century architecture around.

This should be enough to grab your interest. New Orleans is still the greatest place in the country to visit, maybe even live! Good luck!
