Where are the best neighborhoods to rent in for a young, professional reasonably close to downtown Dallas?|157487

As a straight male, I_m looking for an exciting, diverse atmosphere and a safe apartment without having to pay an exorbitant amount of money.

The Village Apts. off of Greenville are not too far north of downtown, and are reasonable.
Untown is closest but probably more expensive.
If you can drive north of LBJ you can find cheaper places.
Stay away from Oak Lawn area.
