(1) Put good content on your website
(2) Register it to search engines
(3) Convince other sites to link more to your site.
You need to submit your website to the different search engines. You can do that by the following links:
(1) Yahoo Submit :

To improve upon your ranking in the search results, you also need to get links from other websites. You can tell your friend sites to link you up. Also if your site has good content, websites may link you up, thus helping in imporving your page rank. I have already written a detailed answer on improving your page rank, you can use it from the following link :

-Excellent content
-Keeping it updated
For example, in 1999 I started www.castawayclub.com, which is all about Disney Cruise Line. It was a hobby, but several years later I opened an online travel agency. I had so much traffic at castawayclub.com that I didn_t even need to advertise my agency. I simply put an ad for it on my existing website, and now I have all the business I can handle. But I update castawayclub.com weekly in order to keep up the high traffic.
If you don_t have the time or resources to do that yourself, I suggest linking up with an established site in your genre. You might have to pay for it, but it would probably be well worth it if you are getting targeted traffic.
Good luck!
