It seems most places are being developed into expensive, clean neighborhoods. Are there any affordable places left where struggling artists and the like are going to live?
I think Bushwick is the only one. Although gentrification is smelled all over the place.

There_s no real affordable place for struggling artists! You can look around and find single apartments for around $1,000, but they_ll be small. Best bet is to get a roommate.
If you want _Bohemian_ neighborhoods, though, they *do* exist. Chelsea is probably the best-known one--so many galleries, great arts scene--but it tends to get expensive there. Same with Soho (certain parts) and Greenwich Village.I have no idea, but as an artist I would love to one day be able to work from N.Y. even for a few months! :)
