I_m planning a trip and would like to get a taste of whats left .

In NM, take the I-40 business routes, esp. in Albuquerque (Central Ave.) and Gallup. There_s also a drivable stretch between Laguna and Grants that allows you to see a little more small town.

Most of Route 66 is gone. The best preserved area of the road is in Oklahoma. There is also some areas in Arizona. In Oklahoma there is a good stretch between Claremore and Tulsa. As you enter a state, ask the Visitors Bureau to give you a Route 66 map.
