I haven_t been back to Philadelphia since my husband and I graduated from Penn over 15 years ago. Then the area around campus didn_t exactly have a good reputation (the Burger King was called Murder King, and the McDonalds was called McDeath). We would like to go back for a visit with our toddler son and wondered if it is safe to walk from 30th Street Station to the Penn campus in the daytime and early evening. I have no idea what the area is like now. Thanks for all of your help.
I grew up in philadelphia and I am a firm believer that basically the entire city is _safe_ during the day. There are blocks I wouldn_t go near once it gets dark, but during the day the city is truly a city of brotherly love. Around the station and campus are fine, there are always a ton of people in that area, just don_t look like too much of a tourist.I graduated from the Restaurant School a couple of blocks away from UPenn. I Walked from 42nd St. To south st. Platform( which I recommend, its right next to Penns stadium) without incident
Not too sure how the area is near the school but 30th street station area is fine. Its not the suburbs but you will be fine.My boyfriend is a professor at Drexel--we walk from 30th St. to the Penn _ Drexel campuses all the time. As a young woman, I feel perfectly safe walking alone during the day _ evening. At night, the area is fairly well-lit; I_ve never had a problem. There_s a good security presence in University City, too (the patrolmen often stop and ask if I need an escort).
The area has cleaned up a lot since you were a student. West Philly still has its rough parts, but University City is quite safe (wait _til you see some of the condos that have gone up near Penn!).yea, its perfectly fine.It_s not the prettiest walk. But University City has become a very safe area.yea its safe during broad daylight. i am a soon to be drexel student and i always take the 30th street station to go to drexel which is right next to the penn campus as u kno
