How do I get to Maine from Washington DC?|135771

Are there airports, trains, et cetera? I_m going to Portland area and people are saying the closest I can get is New York.

Those people who are telling you that the closest you can get is NYC are pretty ignorant. Portland, Maine, is a big enough city to have an airport, a train station, a bus depot, and plenty of major highways. Take your pick!

Most of the trains run DC to Boston.
Airports can take you anywhere.
If you_re driving, just get on I-95, and keep going south.

There is an airport right in Portland. I_m sure that you can get a flight from DC to there. There_s also a downeaster train that runs from DC to Portland -

You can also get there in about a day driving 95 North all the way from DC to Portland.

There_s an airport in Portland, or Manchester NH which is about a three hour drive. Also train or bus. I used to take the train all the time, it_s not a bad way to go. Portland is a smaller airport so it might be a little more expensive.
