Scottsdale is cool if you are into snobby white rich folk I like downtown Phoenix because there is a variety of people there. If you go during a sporting event you can meet LOTS of people.

How long does a typical Mardi Gras parade take to reach downtown?|112115

I was just curious on how long a parade takes from it_s start time to reach downtown and it_s terminus. For example, if a parade start at the typical location uptown at 4:15pm about what time should it be arriving on Canal St in downtown? We are staying downtown near Canal and Magazine and were wondering about how long the parades take to reach that area after they begin.

The other answers are correct and a parade that is scheduled to start at 4:15pm should get to Canal Street between 7:00pm and 7:30pm.

You are almost certainly asking about the Endymion parade. It is one of the longest parades so the _tail_ of the parade will leave the formation area at about the time the head reaches downtown. You won_t miss it.

That also means the parade will be on Canal Street for almost two hours. If you want to watch it all you won_t be done until after 9:00pm. Another option would be to make reservations for 9:00pm, watch the parade until about 8:30pm, and then go to dinner. Be sure you can get from your spot on the parade route to the restaurant ___ without having to cross the route ___. Ask the restaurant for suggestions.

All of the parades in New Orleans now (post-Katrina) start uptown on Napoleon Avenue, which is the _formation area_ and is about 4 miles from Canal Street.

Parades almost always start 15 to 30 minutes late and it will move at a slow walking pace with several stops. 7:30pm is a realistic time for the _head_ of the parade to reach Canal Street.

Carnival this year is very early and the size of the crowds cannot be predicted right now. that is a qusetion that has many answers, it can take anywhere from 2 and 1\2 to about 5 and 1\2 hours on an average so many things come in to play that affect this factor.
here are a few things that can make the time change (rain, how many bands a parade has, break downs, accidents) your best bet is to eat early and find a resturant that you can walk to and from where you want to watch the paraide and back and if you get hungry i would just grab a lil bite after. and don_t try to drive to a resturant because there is no way you will ever get back in time the traffic is just too bad

Looks like a squirrel, looks like a ferret, but brown, and scurries in front of cars on the sides of the road. Is this a squirrel unique to the Hawaii area (we were staying in Kona on the Big Island) or some other type of animal? we were curious!

Funny you should ask. I was just research those animals. Apparently, they are minature cows that were developed there. Several had escaped serveral years ago and reverted to a hairier form.

Several years ago we drove most of the roads in that area with a Chevy full size van, and had no problems with clearances. If you are driving a very large motor home, or pulling a big camping trailer, you may have a problem. Try the web site for the National Park Service, and click on that area. We are traveling from central Illinois. We are going to the Cards/Cubs game first on Saturday, August 18th. There will be 4 of us, ages 21, 23, 32, and 32, 2 guys and 2 girls. We will be using the L, so we need places within walking distance to a station. She likes sports, and likes to party. I know there has to be some great places to take her near Wrigley, or downtown.
Would also be looking for resteraunt ideas. Would like a good Chicago pizza either near Wrigley or anywhere else.

Lucky for you you can find pretty much all of that stuff right around Wrigley Field within a two or three block radius. There are bars there with DJ spinning music for dancing, there are a couple of bars with live music, including two reggae bars. There are upscale and casual restaurants that serve pizza, asian, German and everything else. There_s even a comedy club called the IO theater that is pretty cheap and they serve beer. It_s hard to narrow it down to one or two specific spots. You can just walk around the block and see for yourself. If you want pizza specificaly, there is an Italian restaurant on the corner of Clark and Waveland ave. Can_t think of the name, though. Since you_re not from the city, I_d stick to the area around WRigley Field. Going too far, you might get lost and it sounds like you_ve already mapped out the area from Wrigley to your hotel. I_d stay away from Wrigley - that area is for nerds, wannabes, and losers. The real scene is Bucktown, Wicker Park, or Old Town. Try Bravo or Moonshine in Wicker Park. In Old Town, try Orso_s for some thin crusted pizza.

Take her to Lou Malnati_s downtown. Best pizza in the city if you ask me. Honestly, a better choice for a 21st birthday that is really nice but also affordable is Grand Lux Cafe on Michigan Avenue. Get one of the booths that overlooks Michigan Avenue. Great food, great scenery, decent prices. Head up to Wrigleyville when you are ready to go drinking. All of these places are very accessible on the Red Line.

Go to cabby bear across the street from wrigley. It is a nice sports bar. Giordano_s is a great stuff pizza place.

Young people love Navy Pier... can shop n_ eat there, an IMAX theatre, you all can take one of the tour boats and cruise the lake, would be beautiful at sunset..

What advice do you have for me on planning a drive cross the US?|106364

I am going to go back home soon and will be driving my car across the US. I want advice on what to do and not to do to make this trip go smoothly and quickly. I am strapped for cash so I doubt I will be able to go and sight see. What should I do to prevent any disasters and what should I brings and tips on how to save money while on my journey?

1) Join AAA. Once you join, they can map out the entire trip for you in an economic route. You will also get discounts at hotels/ motels and places to eat along the way. This will also come in VERY handy if you get stuck somewhere. It_s not that expensive and the peace of mind will be worth it.

2) Make sure your car is in good working condition. Get the oil changed and take it to a mechanic for a once over. Make sure the tire pressure is correct as this will help with fuel ecomony.

3) To save money on food, take your own. Pack a cooler with snacks and water and sandwiches, or whatever you like to eat. Stop at grocery stores to replenish your food instead of convenience stores- this will save a little money.

4) If possible, have someone drive with you so you can share the driving and keep each other awake on the long desolate roads.

Your biggest worry is going to be fuel ecomony, so do whatever you can to use little fuel as possible.

I totallly agree with the last answer about the food situation. Pack a cooler with plenty of drinks and food in it. Also get a map now or go to mapquest and find the route with the least miles possible and set the cruise control. I drove from California to East Texas and back in one weekend for a funeral (had to be back at work on Monday) so it can be done relatively quickly. Pack your vehicle ahead of time and fill up the night before and get a GREAT nights sleep. If you prefer, sleep all day long and leave in the evening once it_s dark. This will get you out of state before morning traffic hits and try to plan it where you will be somewhere rural when rush hour hits. Always fill up in the early morning hours and late evening hours if possible, this prevents you having to stop during the worst traffic times. Also if you fill up before the sun makes the ground hot and after the sun goes down you get more gas for your buck (gas expands with heat due to vapors and such) Make some good CD_s before you hit out on the road and if your moving back home make sure you have the things that you_ll need solely for the drive with you in your vehicle and not in a trailer.
