How old should kids be to visit and get the most out of Disneyland/world?|101814

We_re thinking of visiting Disneyland next year when our kids will be almost 4 and 6. Is this still too young? Should we wait another year yet?

I started taking my youngest daughter before she turned 3. She doesn_t remember much of it, but Mrs. Obviousman and I do. We have wonderful memories of our youngest on the rides at Disneyland, and the pictures to prove it. She doesn_t remember back that far (most long term memory doesn_t start until 4 or 5), but she enjoy the memories and you will too.

BTW, this is an excellent time to go. The lines are the shortest of the year.

However, while they are there, they will get a sense of the Disney Magic that they may not remember specifically, but it will stick with then nonetheless.

Well I went a lot of times when I was little, I think around your kids age and I don_t remember a thing about it. My mom regretted taking me there at such a young age because I got nothing out of it at all. I only remember one thing that happened at Disneyland out of all three times I went there when I was little. I think the best age to go it around 8 or so. I went again when I was 13 and it was so much fun because I went on so many rides and all. So that was worth the money cause I got something out of it. Also I enjoyed it a lot with a lot more to go down the road for the memory part. . Also the height would be better too so that they can go on certain rides. Also, a tip about Disney World. If you do go there spend a week there. Cause there is no way you can fit it all in for like 3 days or so. We went there and we crammed it all in for 2 days and it was all a rush. We didn_t get to go on many rides cause we wanted to go to all four parks.

some kids that age would love to go to disney land and meet the princesses and mickey mouse but i went when i was 8 and everything was way to baby like i guess-take them now-its an experience to never forget especially if your young and into all that stuff-the rides are really fun and the line are very long so if your kids r patient and have a lot of fun with disney-take um-they_ll love it!

You should wait until the youngest is between 8-10 because then he/she can go on all the rides. At 4 and 6, they_ll definitely be able to enjoy it but would be bummed if they wanted to go on a ride but couldn_t because they didn_t meet the height requirement.

I would wait one more year. My memories are pretty clear after Kindergarten. I_d say 7 would be an ideal age, and your oldest will be that age next year, and your youngest will be in K, so that_s my vote. You can blame me when your kids scream and complain!

I think 10 and older.They don_t get tired as easily and can enjoy the parks all day.I just came back from Disneyland and seen so many grouchy toddlers and little ones asleep in their buggy_s.It seems like such a waste to be there sleeping through everything.

I think that_s a great age.The 4 yr is ready the 6yr old is definitely there.I notice when the kids are to young the life like characters are to scary.They should have a great time.One day is never enough so save up your money.

i was 11, loved it, my bro was 7 he loved it to, im only slightly above average height (currently about 5ft 10) and i was tall enough for most if not all the rides back then

i think you should wait because we went when i was that young and i dont even remember now. looking at the pictures i cant even remember it AT ALL lol. i really would wait.

I think that they are old enough to go to the disneyland part.
But NOT the california adventures part, which is the best part of all.

Yeah that is fine there are lots of rides they can go on but if they are scared of fast rides don_t take them on Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, or Matterhorn. Those rides are fast.

I think 4 and 6 will be great!! They_re old enough to do a whole lot, and they will remember the trip.

I think it would be silly to take kids under age 3 1/2.

You might want to wait till your 4 year old is 6. 4 is still pretty little. I_d say wait until 7 and 9, but it depends on how long you want to wait.

6 is too young, my nephew climbed up the Swiss Family Robinson tree house twice, and was done for the day.

I would recommend 6. That is the age we first went with our daughter and she was able to make it to about 9 PM before being too tired to walk.

I_ve ridden my bike past Alki pretty late at night, 11:30 - midnight and have seen a couple small fires burning away. Doesn_t make it legal of course... :)

Not legally, I_m afraid. But you can have them till 11:30pm at Alki beach and Golden Gardens.

You are lucky you live in a large city and I_m sure there are a lot of opportunities. Check out some of the local galleries or photo supply shops in your area. A lot of local photographers who display their art are more than happy to, and usually often do, teach on the side for a little extra money. The nice thing about that is they usually have their own studios and you can learn the craft while using their facilities. Check with your school and see if there are any fine arts programs offered off-campus through the school district. Check with your local municipal museum. In the mean time, just keep snapping those photos and use your computer! Everything is digital these days and there are some awesome applications out there. Best of luck to you guys! My son ended up on a photography scholarship to SCAD, and he started later than you guys.

Are there any beaches in Washington state?|179263

I am planning to visit Seattle Washington. Are there any beaches there and can anyone recommend me any to visit this summer.

The entire western border of the state is coastline. Seattle is inland but is on Puget Sound and Elliott Bay. In Seattle there are beaches along Puget Sound and Lake Washington. The link below shows the parks in the city and the sandy beaches are at Alki, Carkeek, Golden Gardens, Seward, and Magnuson. Discovery Park has a waterfront that you can get down to, but it is more rocky than sandy.

There are, but unfortunately they have hardly any sand and tons of rocks, the water is way to cold to swim in, and besides that it is gross, dead jellyish are constantly popping up on the shore, it is creepy. Washington is a fun state but the beaches suck.

Which cross country route would be best in the middle of December? West to East Coast?|176482

We are leaving from WA state to TN the 2nd week of December. We have several routing options, and we_re taking our time b/c we have two small kids. Anyone have suggestions on neat stops to make along the way? We were thinking of driving down the coast to the Redwoods in CA, but are open to suggestions.

The safest bet is to go via Los Angeles and Albuquerque. Other routes will take you through mountains, which may be subject to snow delays or chain requirements. However, this will be considerably longer than going via I-90 and I-80.

What are some good bars and clubs in downtown San Diego?|197485

My friends and I are going to the No Doubt Concert in Chula Vista this weekend but we are going to stay in Downtown SD. We_ve never been bar hopping or clubbing there so where are some good places to go?

There_s a lot of stuff to do in Downtown, that list is a good starting point for casual bars (jeans/tshirts). They_re all pretty good, but it depends on your scene, how much money you want to spend, and your style. If your looking for more high clubs than the casual ones in the gaslamp ($20+ cover charge, drinks like $8 for vodka cranberry, $12-14 for top shelf) dressy/stylish clothes for women; guys w/ collared shirts, dress shoes, etc) here_s a the main ones, i_ll try to give a bried description:

Stingaree - Probably the most expensive - $20-30 cover, depending, two floors, upper floor is rooftop open-air area w/ multiple bars and private cabanas. usually hip hop/pop. dressy, more stylish, like guys/gals in designer clothes that look like 2nd hand stuff. Sometimes you get wannabe celebs, athletes, etc. but the crowds on the days ive gone are always pretty good looking.

On Broadway - Two floors, 3 rooms. upper room has house/techno most weekends, bottom floor is hip hop. normally $20. Standard gaslamp clothes- girls in short dresses, guys in collared shirts, jeans.

Envy at the Ivy - Hotel bar/club, hiphop/pop music. $20 cover. Young crowd, wanna be ballers. Good looking people though. Local Athletes and hanger-on party here. same old gaslamp dress code.

Kin Lounge - The hyatt just opened their kin lounge, which is supposed to be like a miami/vegas poolside lounge on hte 3rd floor. Haven_t been yet, but hjeard it was cool, but I suspect it_ll be just rich 30-40 year olds w/ expense accounts

Hard Rock - not sure about their bars at night, but on sundays they have a rehab/wet republic type thing where they have a sunday daytime poolside club. its pretty good. everyone is in great shape though.

Some more places -

Basic - no cover. by the ball park, in a warehouse/minimal concrete setting. Can be packed, a mix of different people- casual in sports jerseys, stylish trendy people, people in collared shirts dress shoes. plays like standard hip-hop/pop/rock. Rowdy.

Fleetwood- no cover. Can be older people mid 30_s later. Stylish yuppy types. Same music as basic. Sorta chill.

Hotel Bars:

Se lounge at the Se San Diego (next to house of blues). Ultra modern lounge, poolside, pretty cool hotel vibe, loungy-techno music. wannabe euro-types and socials. Cocktail dresses, guys in skinny jeans, mohawks.

JBar. 7th floor outdoor rooftop pool. People in standard dressy clothes. 30 year old yuppies most nights. Pretty nice on a summer night. Not really a party/social mix atmosphere, but good if your in a group. No cover.

Altitude - 14th floor rooftop bar at the marriot by the ballpark. Younger crowd, but wannabe yuppies, so theyre in dress clothes too. Really nice view, great for out of towners. No Cover.

If you like hipsters, trendy people- the only place in downtown san diego is El Dorado. In the outskirts, way out there, in a semi-sketchy area. Sorta hole-in-the-wall type place. Used to be super popular when it first opened up. Think all types of hipsters: like guys in super skinny jeans, skinny ties, looks like they havent showered. Girls in glam/electro clothes. leather jackets. H+M, urban outfitters, ray bans. etc. I think cover_s like $5. They normally spin indi/electro, but depends on the club night.
