What are some fun, unique things to do in new york for an afternoon?|181216

I_m taking my girlfriend into the city for her birthday. We_re from jersey so we_ve been in plenty of times i_m just really not an expert. So far I_m taking her to perillas, to get bubble tea after, and then to the empire state building since neither of us have been there. Any suggestions for something fun and unique before dinner? I was thinking of the botanic gardens or are there any unique places to go shopping?

  • First order of business should be taking a walk in central park, it_s free and wont cost you a dime. If your really feeling spendy, how about a horse drawn carriage ride through the park. Very romantic. Don_t forget to hand her that red rose you pulled out of your backpack just before she takes a seat. Send me an email if you want any more suggestions. I am loaded with them. Best of luck too you both...

  • um...i_m a girl doing a project on new york and i really need help on finding something unique about it.

  • just forget the first commet

  • Where is a nice place to live in humboldt county?|180818

We are looking to move across country from new york to california and humboldt county looks nice. We_re thinking of Arcata, Eureka or McKinleyville, but might be looking for a small town a bit more inland with less fog and warmer weather. What would you suggest?

  • Those towns are nice and pretty much on the coast so you_re gonna get fog every now and then and the cool ocean breeze. I_m not from there but know people who grew up there and they loved it. It_s a hippy area, known for growing good pot. If you don_t like cool ocean weather I wouldn_t live there, but it_s really cute and nice. If you want to go inland from there I would check out Redding, CA.

Is Myrtle Beach on Memorial weekend a good place for couples with children?|132183

We have never been to Myrtle Beach and I_m concerned that Myrtle Beach will be like South Beach Miami on Memorial weekend. South Beach on Memorial weekend is no place for couples or children.

  • It depends on your family_s moral structure. However, I_m going to go ahead and venture a guess and say that it will not be appropriate here for you _ your children on Memorial Day weekend.

This weekend_s motorcycle rally, the Atlantic Beach Bike Rally (also referred to as _Black Bike Week_), is oft attended by bikers (not Harleys...think crotch-rockets) who will pop wheelies while going down the highway, who have extremely scantily-clad girls on the back of their bikes, and who have no problem shouting or saying whatever to whoever. People who support this rally will tell you otherwise, or that these people are in the minority of their attendees...but from someone who has lived here for 23+ years, that observation is not correct.

In short - if you_ve already got plans to come down here this weekend (before Memorial Day), then there_s not much you can do...but if you can wait, I would very much suggest coming next weekend. This weekend is one of two weekends a year us locals just give up and stay home. Hope this answer helped you.

  • Myrtle Beach will be pretty wild. The other thing is, in my opinion, there isn_t much for kids to do other than miniature golf, unless they play adult golf. Plus, the water is still freezing this time of year. Just my opinion. Good luck. I love the Gulf, but taking kids anywhere there are morons on the beach is scary.
  • What are some good cities to live in the South Bay besides Torrance?|156637

I want to buy a home somewhere between LAX and OC, and even though Torrance is nice its pretty expensive.

  • I lived in hermosa and redondo for years. wonderful places to buy a home. you can_t go wrong investing in property in either of those places. or playa del rey if you can find a home there.

  • Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, take your pick. All great cities.

  • I don_t know of any area in LA county or Orange County that are not expensive.

  • I have lived in the South Bay over 50 years. My little 2 bedroom home cost $11,500 and is now worth about $550,000, soooooo, the point is....there is no place that is NOT expensive. East Torrance costs less than West Torrance, East/North Gardena is cheaper than West/South Gardena. If you can find a place in the $400,000 range you will be very lucky.

  • Most of the _good cities_ that I can think of in the South Bay are expensive....e.g. Rolling Hills, Palos Verdes Estates, Manhattan Beach, etc.
    ...Maybe El Segundo?

  • Coastal Long Beach. Compared to some other areas, it_s a comparitive bargain.

Lakewood isn_t bad, but choose the right part. Parts of San Pedro and Lomita are actually really good, and you can get nice deals there, too.

  • Carson and Gardena are affordable choices

Do I need a passport if visiting San Diego?|129402

We are from L.A, my husband and I are planning a weekend at Sea World and San Diego Zoo for our son. A couple of people have told us you will be asked for your passport, is this true? I thought we only need it if leaving the country. Can anyone tell me if this is true? Thanks guys.

  • you are right, your friends are wrong if your flying or driving. it is only about 3 hours from LA to SD.have a good time at Sea World and don_t worry about the passport junk. your ok

  • Use the same passport that you use when visiting Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm. It_s the same passport that you would need when you travel from L.A. to Burbank. Be carefull not to confuse it with the passport you use when going from Anaheim to Buena Park.

    Hope this helps.

  • yes it_s a new city ordinance-anyone visiting San Diego has to have a special visa; you will need to apply at The City of San Diego.

oh and I have some ocean front property in Arizona I would like to sell to you.

  • Don_t you know your geography I think someone needs to go back to school to learn where San Diego is located?

GEE THE LAST TIME I LOOKED AT THE MAP, SAN DIEGO IS IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND IS PART OF THE UNITED STATES.

You ___DON_T___ need a passport to travel within the United States

  • Very funny. San Diego is in the United States. It may seem like Mexico at times with all the illegals.

  • If you_re considering a side trip to Tijuana, you_ll need a passport, and a full set of body armor.

  • You_ve got to be kidding.
Lemme guess, your husbands name is Ricky and the people that told you that are your landlords Fred and Ethel, right?

  • San Diego is in the same state as Los Angeles. You do not need a passport.

  • Noo you wont. Ive never needed my passport for Sand Diego.

  • NO because it is part of US territory you would not need one

  • No you don_t need one.

  • You don_t get out much, do you?

  • no
  • Does anyone know exactly where Saint Andrews Hall is in downtown Detroit?|168461

I_m going to a concert there this Summer and I_m planning my trip but I cannot seem to locate it. I_ve got the address but cannot find which building it is. Could you help?

  • simple just take Jefferson all the way Downtown Detroit,, it is about a block over form the Ren Cen,,, Park near the Police Headquarters on BEAUBIEN and walk down to east Congress . It used to be a Church , i think it is on the right hand of the street,,,,facing west or Randolph st

but then you may to check the dates of the concert along with the Tigers Games , because parking will be hard to find around the area.

    http://www.livenation.com/venue/getVenue

  • South on 375 exit at the Jefferson exit and take a right on Beaubien and St Andrews Hall is next to a parking lot on the corner of Congress and Beaubien.

  • 431 E Congress St
    Detroit, MI 48226
    (313) 961-8137

  • Take 375S to the Jefferson exit (the freeway is closed off partially but you can still get to this exit) where the freeway ends. Come up. There_s a big hotel on your right called the Courtyard Marriot. At the light at the corner of that hotel (can_t remember the name of street) make a right and go to Congress which is right after you make that right. Make a right. St. Andrews is past that first light on Congress on the left hand side right next to a club. Sweetwater Tavern is on the right side on the corner.

  • it_s a great place haven_t been there is years around block and down couple streets from greektown

  • Only in my past memoirs that I can never share..

431 E. Congress Street, Detroit, MI

I think I remember a restaurant called Sweetwater being near St. Andrews, so you can use that as a land mark. Also note that Congress is a one way street, so you_ll have to go around if you_re coming from Woodward.
  • Is there a way to donate clothing directly to victims of Katrina?|167330

I recently moved so I am unpacking and finding many items of clothing that have barely been worn that I would love to give to someone in need. I worked in retail for years so I have many items that still have the tags on them. I also have growing children with new clothing that no longer fits them. Does anyone know of a church or an organization that was affected by Hurricane Katrina of which I could mail the items to? I would love to mail boxes of clothing directly to those who need them.
    Thank you so much!

  • Why did you wait so long?

  • Try the news media here in N.O. Sally Ann will be glad to help
    www.wwltv.com
    www.neworleanschannel.com
    www.nola.com

  • They_re beyond immediate needs such as clothing. You could donate the items, then send the amount of money you received as a tax deduction directly to the Red Cross.

They need money to help rebuild their lives. Many other agencies are helping disburse money.

  • I usually donate (all kinds of things/not just clothing) to Covenant House at 611 North Rampart Street (504-584-1100). You can be sure your donations will go directly to people in need.

  • GO to Oprah_s offical website.

  • Isn_t that over with?

  • 200,000 Katrina _victims_ have already re-located and most are on the dole. Houston welcomed 80,000 and their crime rate went up 17%. You are about 18 months late on the clothing. Your taxes are covering everything now.
